Hi! My name is Shane, and I am currently a Ph.D. student in Materials Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from Rutgers University in 2024, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
During my undergraduate years, I worked as a freelance SAT and ACT tutor, helping high school students significantly improve their scores. I scored a 1580/1600 on the SAT through self-study, which gives me firsthand insight into how to approach standardized exams efficiently and strategically. My tutoring emphasizes not only content mastery, but also test-taking strategy, time management, and building confidence under pressure.
In addition to test preparation, I tutor mathematics from elementary up to the collegiate level, including differential and integral calculus, multivariable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. I also tutor physics, chemistry, and statistics. I have experience as a teaching assistant for a Materials Science laboratory summer course at the University of Pennsylvania, where I developed strong skills in explaining complex technical concepts in clear, approachable ways.
My approach focuses on helping students develop effective study habits tailored to their individual learning styles. My goal is to build independence, confidence, and long-term academic skills that extend far beyond a particular assignment or exam.
I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!
