I am the author of Homegrown Hate (UC Press, 2021) and am an educator with 20 years of experience in K-12 and university, including teaching creative writing at the University of California, San Diego.

I am also trained in English-Language Learning for children and adults including phonics through the Orton-Gillingham method.
I graduated from the University of St Andrews, and earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
