Previous to my graduate career, I extensively tutored elementary students in English, and served as a piano teacher for beginner students for 4 years. I have a passion for writing specifically, and would love to help students with general writing and English skills, and help guide them in the essay-writing process, including stages of conceptualization, writing, editing, and reviewing. As a PhD student, I have much experience writing application essays, scientific articles, and book chapters. I have a particular passion for helping students with application essays for undergraduate university entry, graduate program entry, and scholarships. I love this process so much that I started a program within my PhD department that edits provides feedback on potential applicant's essays.
Generally, I am an affirmative teacher who is skilled at instilling confidence in my students to help them succeed. My teaching style is centered on having a growth-oriented mentality, in which students are encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from constructive criticism, and persist through obstacles. With essay-writing specifically, I am skilled at creating ideas, conceptualizing stories, structuring/outlining essays, and establishing good flow in storytelling, and encourage students to use their best creative and critical thinking skills.
