Hi! I’m an experienced educator with a B.S. in Biochemistry from California State University, Long Beach and an M.Ed. in Secondary Science Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I have taught Chemistry and Biology at the high school level, General Chemistry at the college level, and K–12 mathematics. I was selected as a Knowles Teaching Fellow, a five-year program supporting early-career science and mathematics teachers, and received a $15,000 NSF Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship through the COASTAL program. I specialize in elementary math, pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Microbiology.
My teaching experience includes classroom, laboratory, small-group, and individual student support. As a Chemistry and Biology teacher at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, I taught comprehensive courses, developed engaging lessons and activities, assessed student learning, and provided individualized academic support. At UCSB, I served as a General Chemistry Laboratory Teaching Assistant, teaching three laboratory sections per quarter and working directly with college students through pre-lab lectures, experiments, laboratory techniques, and safety procedures. I also graded lab reports, proctored exams, and held weekly office hours. At CSULB, I led General Chemistry supplemental instruction sessions focused on collaborative learning, critical thinking, and study skills. Earlier, I taught K–12 mathematics at Kumon.
My tutoring approach is patient, supportive, and individualized. I focus on helping students understand why something works rather than simply memorizing formulas or procedures. I break challenging concepts into manageable steps and use examples, diagrams, practice problems, and guided questions based on each student's needs. I also identify gaps in foundational knowledge that may be making more advanced material difficult. My goal is not only to help students succeed on an assignment or exam, but to build their understanding, confidence, and ability to learn independently.
