Hello, my name is Shannon and I am currently a third year student at UC Berkeley studying Molecular and Cellular Biology with and emphasis in Immunology and Pathogenesis, with a minor in Chinese Language. I have over six years of tutoring/ teaching experience working with students of all ages, ranging from elementary to high school. I have taught a variety of topics including but not limited to elementary coding, calculus, precalculus, narrative writing, elementary math, and others. Furthermore, I have ample experience working with youth as a California Academy of Sciences TASC member where I helped teach the science regarding the museum exhibits in creative ways to museum visitors, particularly young children and other youth. As a result, I am a very adaptable tutor and flexible with different class structures and teaching styles.
My focus when it comes to teaching is developing a strong foundation in the topic rather than simply knowing how to solve problems. My approach is to teach the content conceptually to build an understanding of the reasoning behind the problems before attempting to apply that knowledge to said problems. My years of teaching have made me a very flexible teacher that adapts to my students needs, finding teaching methods and exercises catered to my student's learning nature and academic learning progression. My experience has given me the required patience, flexibility, creativity, teaching skills, and compassion to help aid my students in their academic journey.
Took AP Calculus A and B (Scored a 5)
Perfect math score in SAT Math section
Taken college level math courses
I look forward to working with all my future students and am open to questions. I’m very flexible when it comes to ways I can support you as your tutor.
