Hello! My name is Jeremy, and I'm very passionate about teaching, mentoring, and learning. I studied at Biola University, where I went through the Torrey Honors College, a world-leading Great Books program, and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English. I then went on to complete a Master's in English at the University of Cambridge. Following this, I taught at a private high school for two years, after which I moved into tutoring. As a teacher, I found that many of my students flourished most when I could work with them individually: though they struggled to keep up with the whole class, they just needed more personalized instruction to "get it." Seeing students grow as thinkers through these moments of individual connection has become one of my greatest joys, and I cherish getting to provide such formative educational experiences as a tutor.
My primary subject of expertise is English: beyond holding an advanced degree in the subject and teaching it in the classroom, I also have three years of experience tutoring writing in one-on-one contexts. I’ve worked with students on projects ranging from capstone research papers to college application essays, so I’d love to help with any writing needs you have. I’ve also taught history and math for two years, so I can tutor any level of these subjects covered in high school as well.
In our first session together, I’ll aim to build a strong working relationship with you (or your child), and we’ll work together to determine what material you’d like to cover with me. This plan will lay a foundation for our future sessions, in which I'll use a mix of direct instruction, independent practice, workshopping time, and/or discussion depending on what would be most effective for that day. I'm very flexible and I'll gladly take any requests you might have as well.
So please do reach out! I'm happy to offer a free first session to see if we'd be a good fit, and I would love to answer any questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
