My personal approach is to start with each student's current level of skill and proficiency, then provide patient guidance as they practice printing letters, spacing words, spelling, punctuation and sentence construction. Over time, students will increase skill and understanding so they can write with proficiency and express ideas clearly. The goal is for each child to experience success completing writing projects in the classroom, and ultimately to discover the joy of writing outside the school setting.
Writing is a vital skill for every child and is linked directly to reading proficiency. However many children never get the one-on-one attention they need to succeed at writing in their first years of school. Young children develop confidence when they can print clearly and legibly, spell words perfectly and express their ideas with well-crafted sentences.
