Bio

I hold a B.A. in molecular and cell biology from University of California at Berkeley. I love teaching and enjoy working with students of all ages. I served as a teacher's assistant in my math, English and Chinese classes since I excelled in those classes during middle and high school. I have taught my younger sister piano and my friends' kids Mandarin and math. For the past twelve years of working as a professional tutor, I have tutored students of all ages and backgrounds in all levels...

I hold a B.A. in molecular and cell biology from University of California at Berkeley. I love teaching and enjoy working with students of all ages. I served as a teacher's assistant in my math, English and Chinese classes since I excelled in those classes during middle and high school. I have taught my younger sister piano and my friends' kids Mandarin and math. For the past twelve years of working as a professional tutor, I have tutored students of all ages and backgrounds in all levels of math, statistics and Mandarin Chinese (from elementary to college level). One of my assignments was tutoring a 14-year-old girl Mandarin. I reviewed previously-learned words with her and also introduced Chinese grammar, basic sentence structures and new words. I created easy-to-read handouts, systematic charts, fun exercises and challenging quizzes to help her learn. It was a very fun and rewarding experience. Growing up in Taiwan, I speak and write fluent Mandarin Chinese. My strengths and specialties also include standardized test preparation in the math section of the SSAT ISEE, ACT, SAT, GRE, CHSPE, ASVAB as well as AP calculus, AP statistics, AP Chinese, etc. I have gained proven success in all the areas I tutored and I'm very happy with the results I have attained. I am dedicated to helping students improve their school performance and achieve their academic goals.

Since my objective is to help students succeed, I strive to be not only a homework helper but a great teacher/leader/mentor transforming students' academic lives. For the past few years, I have also taught at several top independent schools and math camps in the SF Bay Area. I believe there is so much I can learn from each student how to make a significant difference in their learning process, and I aspire to uncover students' hidden potential and help them become independent thinkers. I am also very familiar with its content and structure which consists of two different sections: quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievement. I'd love to go through practice tests and share test-taking strategies with students to help them achieve high scores.

Superior math tutor with superior results!

Tina has worked with our eighth grade daughter this school year on Algebra and SSAT prep work. Our daughter not only earned an A this semester in Algebra but she made tremendous gains on the SSAT math section, reaching high percentile rankings. Tina has helped our daughter learn how to break down a problem and understand it. She has helped our daughter gain confidence to tackle challenging word problems with ease.. My two daughters, 11 and 15 years old, are both making incredible progress in math thanks to Tina. My younger daughter is in 6th grade and has a difficult time understanding concepts and solving word problem equations due to mild dyslexia and other learning issues. Tina is patient and helps my daughter understand the concepts behind the math she is doing. My 15-year old is a sophomore in HS and is doing Honors Advanced Algebra. Tina has been a life saver for her, as well. Tina is wonderful to be around, communicates well, and really helps the kids understand math. Thank god we have her!

Tina helped my daughter prepare for her Algebra 2 mid term exam. Before the lesson, my daughter was very negative towards herself and math. Saying things like how stupid she is, I don't understand what's going on, etc. After the lesson, my daughter was pumped...I'm going to ace this test.
