As a passionate and patient math tutor, my goal has always been to ensure students obtain a well-rounded skill set to unlock their academic potential. While getting my Master’s degree in Financial Engineering at U.C. Berkeley and B.S. in Mathematics at National Taiwan University, I tutored math for a number of middle schoolers and high schoolers. With more than 5 years’ experience, I have had the privilege of seeing each of them gain confidence in math, and furthermore improve academic performances.
I am proficient in middle school and high school math. Besides, I have started to teach K-5th graders math over the last 3 years. One 5th grade student of mine was selected to take his school’s accelerated math class when he became a 6th grader. Now as of year 2016, he is able to work on high school level math as a 7th grader. I also have a strong desire to help students in enriching their practices of the standardized tests, such as SAT, GRE, and GMAT.
I set up study plans by taking into account students’ learning differences. Moreover, I help students develop skills and positive attitudes toward learning and studying. I’ll teach students to be self-confident and meanwhile motivate students to take the challenges when they see the challenges. Finally, the written communications with parents are also important, and hence the evaluation reports will be provided on a regular basis. I also assist students in their homework either through email or during the tutoring session.
I prefer to meet students at their own home, public libraries, or wherever is convenient and safe for them. Currently, I am only available for in-person tutoring on weekends from 10am to 9pm. If there is a need, we can work around schedules on weekdays. However, the homework assistance through email is 24/7, and I’ll get back to you right after I check the email.
Given my solid academic backgrounds, math-related working experience, and a passion for tutoring, please let me assist you to excel in various fields of math. In addition, if you are interested in learning Chinese, I would be more than happy to show you such a beautiful language as well. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon. As a passionate and patient math tutor, my goal has always been to ensure students obtain a well-rounded skill set to unlock their academic potential. Keliang is a dedicated tutor. I note that he is primarily concerned with ensuring that my daughter gets better in geometry. Not only does he have mastery of the subject matter, he is patient and possesses the ability to explain complex theories in a manner that is easily understood. More importantly, he encourages my daughter to think through the problems and find the solutions on her own.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
There are certain principals I would like emphasize in my tutoring. First of all, be patient and think out loud, which means take your time to put down the whole thinking process while solving a question. You will be benefiting from this practice because you will try to search all the concepts you have learned and use all the diverse learning tools, such as objects, graphics, computer... and so on, to make yourself understand the problem more. Secondly, errors are more than welcome to make. Mistakes can sharpen your critical thinking skill to a great extent and hence they are very valuable lessons for your later success in math. Besides, I’ll teach the mathematical contents and concepts with depth and breadth.
If you read the history of algebra, you’ll see that it’s nothing more than the history of solving equations. Therefore, my tutoring will be focused on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills to formulate and solve equations. I’ll help students comprehend the mathematical concepts and formulas so as to improve their analytical capabilities.
I studied Calculus and Advanced Calculus during my first two years of my undergraduate degree. Since then, I have been applying it to conduct several financial engineering projects for my graduate school and at work. While working in the hedge fund industry, I utilize such a powerful tool to research and develop investment models. According to my solid academic and working knowledge in Calculus, I have the capability to provide students with customized tutoring services upon reviews of their requirements and course textbooks.
Chinese is my mother language. I was born in Taiwan and had studied Chinese for over 25 years. I was in the top 10 percentile for the Chinese subject test, which is one of six subjects in Taiwan’s annual university entrance exam. I tutored Chinese for students of all ages for 3 years.
I mainly teach traditional Chinese characters with both Zhu-Yin and Pin-Yin. The one-on-one tutoring is focused on Chinese vocabulary, reading, writing, and speaking. In addition, I can help students taking Chinese SAT-II test and AP Chinese test.
I cover an in-depth mathematical analysis of plane, solid, and coordinate geometry, including their formal proofs and practical applications. In addition, students will have a chance to review the concepts and techniques from Algebra I and Algebra II and learn how to integrate them with geometric phenomena. They all serve as a solid foundation of the preparation for Pre-Calculus.
I studied Linear Algebra in my first year of my undergraduate degree. Since then, I have been using it for various projects of my graduate school and at work. While working in the hedge fund industry, I utilize such a powerful tool to research and develop investment models. Based on my sound academic and working knowledge in Linear Algebra, I have the capability to provide students with customized tutoring services upon reviews of their requirements and course textbooks.
