About Edgar

Bio

I will be transferring to MIT as a Math with Computer Science major next fall. I always had a passion for math, so I'd love to use my remaining months in the Bay Area to help students succeed!

My focus has always been to make sure that each student takes more with them than the question they bring. Breaking down complex problems to reasonable methods is one of my strongest abilities and one of the reasons why I like tutoring so much.

I have experience as Campus Center Tutor (Algebra, Calculus & Linear Algebra), President of the CSM Math Club, National Math Olympiad medalist and NCUR Research Student Presenter. I have been working as a Center Tutor for the Math Resource Center, the Integrated Science Center and the Disability Resource Center at my former college. In a span of 2 years, I have worked with students ranging from 15 all the way through 70.

I can help students from middle school up to early college, in: Math, ranging from Geometry to Differential Equations; Computer Science, especially C++, Java & Python; SAT Prep & test strategies and University applications (essays, guidance, etc).

Approved Subjects

AMC (Competition math)

AMC (Competition math)

As a Silver Medalist in the Cuban National Mathematical Olympiad, I have extensive experience solving challenging competition mathematics problems under exam conditions. In addition, I have participated in the Putnam Competition as the President of the CSM Math Club, where we trained from a large pool of problems, including those of AMC.
C++

C++

I have several years of experience programming in C++ and have used it extensively for data structures, algorithms, graph theory, and competitive programming. As a Computer Science student and tutor, I have helped students learn everything from fundamental concepts such as classes, pointers, and recursion to more advanced topics including STL containers, algorithm design, and object-oriented programming. I focus on building a strong understanding of both problem-solving techniques and clean, efficient code.
Calculus

Calculus

I have finished the whole Calculus series with an A and continued with my foundation prodessor to study further into Complex Calculus and Manifolds.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I am a Mathematics with Computer Science student at MIT with experience in Python, C++, Java, and general programming fundamentals. I have worked on projects involving web development, data structures, algorithms, formal reasoning, and game programming, including helping younger students build and improve Python/PyGame projects. I also have experience tutoring math and programming, and I focus on helping students understand not just how to code, but how to think through problems clearly and systematically.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have a strong background in discrete mathematics through my studies in mathematics and computer science, including topics such as logic, proof techniques, combinatorics, graph theory, recurrence relations, and number theory. I regularly use discrete mathematics concepts in programming, algorithms, and theoretical mathematics. I also finished my Discrete class with an A.
Logic

Logic

I have a strong foundation in mathematical and formal logic through my studies in mathematics, computer science, and proof-based problem solving. My experience includes logical reasoning, propositional and predicate logic, proof techniques, set theory, and the rigorous construction of mathematical arguments. I help students develop clear logical thinking and learn how to analyze, construct, and communicate proofs with confidence.
