My name is Dong and I have a BA and MA in Media Studies from Stanford University, as well as a MBA from UC Berkeley Haas Business School. I have 2 years of 1-on-1 tutoring experience in helping 12 high school students improve their SAT test scores by 100-200 points--and being admitted to the college of their dreams. I have also demonstrated my proficiency in the SAT by scoring a 1540/1600.
My teaching method consists of a results-oriented approach that focuses on improving the student's test scores and overall academic excellence. I first start out by identifying where the student currently is in their academic progression, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. I will then prepare test questions that specifically address their weaknesses and other supplementary learning materials to further boost their understanding in these areas. Next, I examine the student's approach in solving the test question, analyze their thinking processes, and explain the best solution by breaking it down into a series of easy-to-follow steps and concepts. Finally, I will also test the student further with other similar questions until they can handle them on their own and demonstrate firm understanding of the concepts.
My goal for teaching is not to simply help the student select the correct answer for specific test questions, but also enhance their understanding and mastery of the subjects so that they can see a significant improvement in their test scores from here onwards. I am also a native Chinese Mandarin speaker and can conduct the tutoring in Chinese as well. I reside in the San Francisco Bay Area but mostly teach online.
