About Rossina

I'm here to help you! I love math, I love teaching it, and I think it's fun!

I teach geometry, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, and pre-calculus for home school families. Age does not matter. As long as you are taking one of these courses I am available to help you. I am located in North County San Diego, so my services are provided in person in the following cities: Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Encinitas. If you are open to online tutoring, then we can work together no matter where you are via Wyzant's online platform.

WHAT I DO:

1. Help you master concepts you are learning in your math class.
2. Help you develop excellent critical thinking skills so that you can solve problems independently and accurately.
3. Help you cultivate healthy study habits to continue succeeding in life.

WHAT I DO NOT DO:

1. Complete assignments, quizzes, tests, or projects for students.
2. Homework. Your homework from class must be completed outside of our sessions.
3. If you are looking to improve in two weeks or cram for a test, then I am not the tutor for you.

A BIT ABOUT MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

Tutoring is providing supplemental assistance to those already taking a math course. You don't magically get an A when you hire a tutor. As your tutor, my goal is to help you achieve that A, however, it is equally important that as a student, you must do the work. I like to relate academic success to riding a bike. You practice and practice until you know how to do it well. Math is just like that, except it's exercise for the brain. You will get out exactly what you put into it.

Teaching requires time. Imagine yourself sitting in a classroom, taking notes, completing homework assignments, and getting tested. That's exactly what I do for my home school students. Many home school parents don't know how to teach the language of math or they just don't have the time, so I step in to do that for them. There are lots of different home school programs structured in a variety of ways, with different kinds of resources offered. At the end of the day, I work with the student and their curriculum to achieve one goal: master math.

ABOUT ME:

I'm a UCLA Bruin at heart and graduated in 2005 with a BA in Economics and a minor in German. After a few years in the corporate world, I stumbled upon tutoring in the fall of 2010. My best friend desperately asked me to tutor her for the intermediate algebra college course she was taking. She had failed the class three times and it was the only class she needed to get her AA degree. How frustrating, right?! When I started working with her well into two-thirds of the semester, she had an F in the class. By the end of our time together, she had raised her grade to a B. She was so happy! I was so happy for her! To have been able to help my friend on such a huge level inspired me to pursue tutoring professionally. I'm so glad I was able to help her and was proud to be at her graduation ceremony.

Maybe you'll relate to her story. I understand how frustrating it can be to try and decipher a language of numbers, but with practice, dedication, and my help, it can be done. I will make sure to help you build a strong foundation, as this is key to being successful in upper level math classes.

If it sounds like we would make a great fit, please contact me!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 builds on the concepts studied and practiced in pre-algebra. I can help you understand the concepts, so that you can complete math problems on your own.

Geometry

Geometry can be tricky if you don't start out knowing the basics very well. I'll help you practice and understand all the basics, so you can master more advanced geometry later down the road.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra takes elementary math a step further, as well as prepares you for the concepts in algebra. I will help you review and practice so that you are best prepared to take your math to the next level.
