Hi, I'm Mckinzie, and I am currently completing my bachelor's degree in biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego. My educational background includes advanced coursework in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and laboratory science, along with nearly two years of scientific research experience at UC San Diego and 1.5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

I previously worked as an after-school program instructor at a middle school, supporting students approximately 11 to 14 years old in a group setting. I helped students complete homework, stay organized, participate in educational activities, and better understand challenging material. I have also supported students in research environments by explaining scientific concepts and guiding them through unfamiliar tasks.

My teaching approach is patient, encouraging, and adapted to each student's needs. I break difficult topics into manageable steps, use examples and guided practice, and ask questions to ensure the student understands the reasoning rather than simply memorizing an answer. I am comfortable working one-on-one or in small-group settings with middle and high school students who need assistance in biology, chemistry, math, general science, homework completion, test preparation, or study skills.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I help middle and high school students build a strong foundation in Algebra I by breaking down concepts into clear, manageable steps. As a UC San Diego biochemistry student, I use math regularly in science and laboratory settings, giving me a practical understanding of algebraic problem solving. I previously supported middle school students in an after-school academic program, helping them improve homework completion, organization, and confidence. My goal is to help students understand the "why" behind each concept so they can solve problems independently and feel prepared for future math courses.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I help students develop confidence in Algebra II by breaking down multi-step problems into clear, manageable steps. As a UC San Diego biochemistry student, I regularly apply algebra to chemistry, biology, and laboratory data analysis, allowing me to connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications. I also have experience supporting middle school students in an after-school academic program, helping them improve problem-solving skills and academic confidence. My lessons focus on strengthening conceptual understanding, practicing effective problem-solving strategies, and preparing students for success in future math and science courses.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I am currently completing my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at UC San Diego. I have nearly two years of laboratory research experience and 1.5 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry, giving me practical knowledge of molecular biology, proteins, genetics, and biochemical techniques. I also previously supported middle school students in an after-school academic program. I explain complex biochemical concepts in clear steps and use diagrams, examples, and guided practice to help students build confidence.
Biology

Biology

I am a UC San Diego biochemistry student with nearly two years of laboratory research experience and 1.5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. My background allows me to explain biology using real-world examples from genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. I previously supported middle school students in an after-school academic program and enjoy helping students build confidence through clear explanations and guided practice. My goal is to help students understand biological concepts, prepare for exams, and develop strong problem-solving and study skills.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I am currently completing my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at UC San Diego, where I have developed a strong foundation in chemistry through advanced coursework and laboratory research. I also have nearly two years of research experience at UCSD and 1.5 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry. I previously supported middle school students in an after-school academic program, helping them understand assignments and strengthen their study skills. I explain chemistry concepts step by step using examples, guided practice, and connections to real laboratory applications.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I am currently completing my bachelor's degree in biochemistry at UC San Diego, where I have completed extensive coursework in organic chemistry and apply these concepts in laboratory research. My nearly two years of research experience have strengthened my understanding of molecular structure, reaction mechanisms, and biochemical applications. I explain challenging topics step by step, helping students develop problem-solving strategies instead of relying on memorization. My goal is to help students build a strong conceptual foundation and confidence in organic chemistry.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I earned an A in pharmacology and am currently completing my bachelor's degree in biochemistry at UC San Diego. My nearly two years of research experience and 1.5 years working in the pharmaceutical industry have given me practical insight into drug mechanisms, physiology, and molecular biology. I help students understand pharmacology by connecting drug actions to the underlying biology and chemistry, making complex concepts easier to understand. My lessons emphasize conceptual understanding, exam preparation, and long-term retention rather than memorization.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I help students build a strong foundation in pre-algebra by making math approachable and easy to understand. As a UC San Diego biochemistry student, I use mathematics regularly in my coursework and scientific research. I also have nearly two years of research experience, 1.5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and previous experience supporting middle school students in an after-school academic program. My lessons focus on strengthening number sense, fractions, decimals, ratios, equations, and problem-solving skills while building confidence for success in Algebra I and future math courses.
