I’m an English and writing tutor with experience working one-on-one with elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. I hold a B.A. in Creative Writing and Latina/Latino Studies from San Francisco State University, where I graduated cum laude, as well as an A.A.-T. in English. I’m currently completing an M.A. in Latin American Studies. I also served as an undergraduate instructional aide for a university Creative Writing course, where I evaluated student writing, provided detailed feedback, assisted with online course administration, and held virtual office hours.

My tutoring focuses on helping students become stronger, more independent readers and writers. I work with students on academic writing, essay development, organization, grammar, sentence structure, revision, reading comprehension, and critical analysis. Rather than simply correcting a student's work, I explain why a change is needed and help the student learn how to recognize and solve similar problems independently. I also support students with humanities and social studies coursework, particularly assignments involving reading, research, and writing. Spanish was my first language, and I am a heritage speaker with strong reading, writing, listening, and comprehension skills.

Every student has different strengths and challenges, so I adapt lessons to the student’s level, goals, and current coursework. Sessions may include guided practice, discussion, targeted exercises, feedback on writing, or step-by-step work through difficult material. My goal is to create a supportive but academically focused environment where students can ask questions, improve their skills, and become increasingly confident working on their own. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your goals and see whether I would be a good fit.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I hold a B.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, where I graduated cum laude with a 3.90 GPA. As an undergraduate instructional aide for Creative Writing 101, I evaluated student work and provided detailed feedback on narrative structure, grammar, literary technique, and revision. I also tutor students from elementary through college level and can help with idea development, imagery, characterization, sentence craft, organization, and strengthening a piece through revision. My approach focuses on helping students develop their own voice and understand the craft behind effective writing rather than simply rewriting their work for them.
English

English

I hold a B.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, where I graduated cum laude with a 3.90 GPA, as well as an A.A.-T. in English. I have experience tutoring elementary, middle school, high school, and college students in English, including reading comprehension, grammar, academic writing, essay development, revision, and literary analysis. I also served as an undergraduate instructional aide for a university writing course, where I evaluated student work, provided detailed written feedback, and held office hours for individualized academic support. My approach emphasizes helping students understand the reasoning behind strong reading and writing so they can apply those skills independently across assignments.
Social Studies

Social Studies

Right. The previous version over-centered Latin America, even though your academic background is much broader across the social sciences and humanities. And there’s no reason to foreground Educational Equity when we have stronger, more relevant coursework to highlight. **Subject title:** Social Studies Tutor | History, Government, Civics & Humanities **Subject qualifications:** I have an interdisciplinary academic background in the humanities and social sciences, including coursework in U.S. and world history, government and civics, sociology, anthropology, geography, economics, and Latin American studies. I hold a B.A. in Latina/Latino Studies and am currently completing an M.A. in Latin American Studies, with extensive experience in academic research, critical reading, and evidence-based writing. I can help students understand historical events, political and social concepts, primary and secondary sources, and the relationships between people, institutions, and societies. My approach emphasizes chronology, cause and effect, careful use of evidence, and helping students explain complex ideas clearly in both discussion and writing.
Sociology

Sociology

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Latina/Latino Studies, where I focused extensively on sociology and the social structures that shape our world. My academic background has provided me with a deep understanding of social theory, cultural dynamics, and historical perspectives. With years of tutoring experience, I am well-equipped to help students grasp complex sociological concepts and apply them to real-world situations.
Spanish

Spanish

Spanish was my first language, and I am a heritage speaker with strong reading, writing, listening, and comprehension skills. I can help students with grammar, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, written Spanish, listening practice, and understanding material from their Spanish courses. My academic background also includes substantial study of Spanish-speaking cultures and Latin America at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I tailor lessons to the student’s current proficiency and focus on helping them understand how the language works so they can become more confident and independent learners.
Spelling

Spelling

I hold a B.A. in Creative Writing and an A.A.-T. in English, giving me a strong foundation in spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and written language. I have experience tutoring elementary-age students in ELA, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing, and I use clear explanations and guided practice to reinforce spelling patterns. I help students break unfamiliar words into manageable parts, recognize common patterns, and connect spelling practice with reading and vocabulary development. My approach is patient and structured, with the goal of helping students become more accurate and confident readers and writers.
Writing

Writing

I hold a B.A. in Creative Writing and an A.A.-T. in English, with extensive academic experience in research, essay writing, revision, and literary analysis. I have tutored high school and college students in thesis development, organization, argument structure, clarity, coherence, grammar, proofreading, and citation, and I previously served as an undergraduate instructional aide for a university writing course. I help students strengthen both individual assignments and the underlying skills needed to plan, draft, revise, and edit their own work effectively. My approach emphasizes clear reasoning, logical organization, precise language, and helping students become more confident and independent writers.
