Hi, I'm Sean! I am currently studying Computer Science at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. I have always been a strong advocate for personalized, one-on-one learning: not only does it meet the needs of each individual student but it also encourages personal and academic growth. Because schools often place dozens of students in a singular classroom, it can be hard to find the attention, pacing, and style each student needs to thrive. Thus, I wish to help students...

Thus, I wish to help students by addressing their specific needs, including explaining concepts, assisting with homework, answering general questions, and reviewing lessons.

In the past, I have tutored students across several grade levels, though I typically work with high school students. I have served as a high school Academic Decathlon subject coach in music, math, science, and economics for 3 years, and I have tutored high school math in the summer for 2 years. Through an after-school tutoring program, I have tutored middle to high school students in various STEM subjects, such as chemistry, pre-calculus, statistics, and more.

My approach to tutoring is one of understanding as I have found that my students are most successful when they truly comprehend the content rather than memorize the right answers. I have found visual representations and real-world connections effective in helping students understand advanced concepts. As I'm passionate about learning, I strive to motivate a similar enthusiasm in my students and enjoy seeing their improvement as the content becomes clearer.

I specialize in AP and IB preparation in STEM courses, such as Chemistry, Statistics, and Pre-calculus. However, I also cover other subjects and have experience with non-AP/IB classes, ranging from Music Theory to Economics. To best support my students, I offer a flexible schedule with availability seven days a week, covering most hours.

Please contact me with any questions about scheduling a session, my qualifications, or if you would like a free 30-minute consultation!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have tutored both high school and middle school students alike in Algebra 1 through private sessions and an after-school tutoring program. With a 7 in IB Mathematics Analysis and Approach and an approach centered on comprehension, I cater my tutoring sessions to each student’s specific needs, whether they be homework assistance, concept review, or lesson plans. For those interested in gaining a head start on the next school year, I provide one-on-one in-person and virtual meetings to go over specific topics covered by most high school curriculums.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I am a passionate general chemistry tutor with over three years of experience in studying and tutoring this subject. With a 5 in AP Chemistry and a 7 in IB HL Chemistry, I am very familiar with standardized testing as well as the high school and entry college-level curriculum for general chemistry. My approach emphasizes establishing a fundamental understanding of the concepts as I’ve found this to be the most effective way of learning, and am willing to assist with homework, review concepts, or teach lessons.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I have helped countless students prepare for their college careers over the last three years. From deciding what colleges to apply to, developing personal statements, and completing college applications, I utilize a personalized approach that factors in each student's circumstances and needs in order to deliver the best outcome! My specialty is with the University of California and California State University systems, helping students into schools like UC Berkeley, UCLA, and more! With my college counseling students, I offer a variety of flexible session formats so they can choose what works best with their schedule and goals. I am currently offering the following options: 1) Students may request a free 15-minute consultation to discuss what the student needs, where they are at with the application process, and what lessons with me would look like. College counseling can be expensive, so I want to ensure each student gets the help they need and knows exactly what that would look like before making any commitments. 2) Students may schedule traditional one-on-one virtual meetings. Here, we can work on brainstorming ideas, filling out applications, editing essays, and more. My base rate is $80/hr. 3) Students may schedule asynchronous meetings where they send me essays to read over and leave feedback. This is a very popular option for students who have already started their essays and mainly want help revising them. All a student needs to do is send me any essays they need help with, and I will send back a fully annotated copy within 48 hours, with no meetings necessary. My rate for shorter essays (roughly the length of a UC PIQ or about 350 words) is one-quarter the price of an hour or $40/essay. Longer essays (more than 350 words such as a personal statement) are half the price of an hour or $80/essay. These rates are for an individual review of an essay, meaning multiple revisions over the same essay will incur multiple charges. 4) Students may also request a hybrid option, mixing some online meetings and som

Engaging and patient!

I am the mom of the student Sean tutored for the 1st time. I just watched a portion of the video and was thrilled with how Sean explained a concept, asked if she understood, then went through an example and had her do all the steps and explain to him her thinking. He really made her embrace the learning process. I am super impressed. She also told me, after the session, that she learned a lot and really liked his personality. We are already booking future sessions! Thanks Sean!
