About David

Bio

I am a pre-med student at Monterey Peninsula College with a 4.0 GPA and a strong background in math and science coursework. I have completed courses including general chemistry, precalculus, calculus, and additional college-level STEM classes, earning A grades in these subjects. I tutor algebra, precalculus, calculus, and general chemistry because these are areas where I have both academic success and direct experience helping other students understand difficult material.

My tutoring experience includes working as a tutor at the MPC STEM Center and Math Learning Center, serving as an embedded tutor for Calculus I, and assisting as a teaching assistant for calculus. Most of my formal tutoring experience has been with college students, both one-on-one and in academic support settings, but I am also comfortable helping high school students who are preparing for college-level math and science. Through these roles, I have helped students work through homework problems, prepare for exams, review difficult concepts, and build stronger study habits.

My tutoring style focuses on helping students understand the reasoning behind each step instead of simply memorizing procedures. I usually begin by identifying where the student feels stuck, then I break the problem into smaller parts and guide them through examples until they can explain the process back to me. I try to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them become more independent and confident learners.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have a strong math background and currently work as an embedded tutor for Calculus I at Monterey Peninsula College, along with tutoring at both the Math Learning Center and STEM Center. In these roles, I regularly help students strengthen the algebra skills needed for success in higher-level math, including solving equations, graphing, factoring, working with functions, and understanding word problems. For Algebra I, I focus on breaking problems down step by step and helping students understand the reasoning behind each method. My goal is to help students build confidence, improve their problem-solving skills, and feel more prepared for future math courses.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a strong math background and currently work as an embedded tutor for Calculus I at Monterey Peninsula College, along with tutoring at both the Math Learning Center and STEM Center. In these roles, I regularly help students strengthen the algebra skills needed for success in higher-level math, including solving equations, graphing, factoring, working with functions, and understanding word problems. For Algebra 2, I focus on breaking problems down step by step and helping students understand the reasoning behind each method. My goal is to help students build confidence, improve their problem-solving skills, and feel more prepared for future math courses.
Calculus

Calculus

I currently work as an embedded tutor for Calculus I at Monterey Peninsula College, where I support students during class and help them work through difficult concepts step by step. I also tutor at the Math Learning Center and STEM Center, giving me experience helping students with limits, derivatives, integrals, related rates, optimization, and other core calculus topics. My approach is to break problems into clear steps, explain the reasoning behind each method, and adapt to each student’s learning style. I focus on helping students build both problem-solving skills and confidence so they can understand calculus rather than simply memorize formulas.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have a strong academic background in chemistry, having completed Chemistry 2, Chemistry 1A, and Chemistry 1B with an A in each course. Through these classes, I gained experience with core chemistry topics such as stoichiometry, chemical reactions, solution chemistry, acids and bases, equilibrium, and laboratory calculations. I also have hands-on lab experience with procedures such as titration, solution preparation, data analysis, graphing results, and following proper lab safety protocols. As a tutor, I focus on breaking chemistry concepts down step by step so students can build confidence and understand the material rather than just memorize it.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have a strong math background and currently work as a teacher's assistant for Calculus I at Monterey Peninsula College, along with tutoring students at both the Math Learning Center and STEM Center. While much of my current tutoring is with college students, I enjoy breaking math down into simple, step-by-step explanations that younger students can understand. For elementary math, I focus on building confidence, strengthening fundamentals, and helping students with topics such as arithmetic, fractions, word problems, patterns, and early problem-solving skills. My goal is to make math feel less intimidating and help students become more comfortable working through problems on their own.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have a strong math background and currently work as an embedded tutor for Calculus I at Monterey Peninsula College, along with tutoring at both the Math Learning Center and STEM Center. In these roles, I help students strengthen the foundational skills that support success in higher-level math, including fractions, decimals, ratios, equations, graphing, and problem-solving strategies. For prealgebra, I focus on breaking each problem into clear steps and helping students understand why the process works rather than just memorizing rules. My goal is to help students build confidence, improve their math foundation, and feel more prepared for algebra.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have a strong math background and currently work as a teacher's assistant tutor for Calculus I at Monterey Peninsula College, along with tutoring students at both the Math Learning Center and STEM Center. In these roles, I often help students strengthen the precalculus skills needed for success in calculus, including functions, graphing, trigonometry, algebra, logarithms, and problem-solving strategies. For precalculus, I focus on breaking concepts down step by step and helping students understand the reasoning behind each method. My goal is to help students build confidence, strengthen their foundation, and feel prepared for calculus and other higher-level math courses.
