About Beth

Bio

I am an experienced math tutor and I am close to acquiring my teaching credential in math. I love working with students and experiencing the ah-ha moment of discovery. My experience in teaching is mostly at the middle school level, but I have tutored students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I have tutored for 3 years and I taught for one year.

My degree is in mathematics education and I really enjoy teaching all levels, although Algebra is my favorite. I have worked with younger students...

My experience in teaching is mostly at the middle school level, but I have tutored students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I have tutored for 3 years and I taught for one year.

My degree is in mathematics education and I really enjoy teaching all levels, although Algebra is my favorite. I have worked with younger students and am comfortable with Common Core teaching methods, but I also can teach high school and some college levels of math.

Algebra 1

I have completed my student teaching at a middle school and the subject was Algebra 1. This is my favorite subject to teach and I love explaining Algebra. I even tutored fellow students in Algebra 1 when I was taking Algebra 2 in high school.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I love Algebra and I love tutoring Algebra. I am incredibly close to completing my teaching credential to teach middle or high school math. My dream would be to teach Algebra because I love the logic of it. I am very skilled at ensuring understanding, especially with Algebra problems.
Common Core

I have worked for several years specializing with students from 2nd grade through middle school, although I had students as young as Kindergarten through high school. I also am studying to become a math teacher and have learned a lot about the Common Core standards and methods. I am comfortable with the Common Core methods and teaching for understanding. I am a strong believer in teaching students multiple methods to complete problems and also ensuring that those students understand why those methods work. I have mastered several different teaching methods, involving diagrams, number lines, and manipulatives to teach with Common Core methods.

I have worked for several years at a private math center which specializes with students from 2nd grade through middle school, although we had students as young as Kindergarten through high school. I am comfortable with the Common Core methods and teaching for understanding.
Geometry

I have majored in math for education and geometry, while not my favorite subject, is something that I understand. Because I did somewhat struggle with geometry in school, this makes me an even better tutor. I understand what problems students have with geometry and can help them understand it even better.

I have completed my student teaching and a large portion of the school year in teaching math at the middle school level, primarily pre-Algebra. I really enjoy this level of math and explaining the details that kids miss.
Precalculus

I am in process to receive my math teaching credential and have majored in math education. I have taken several courses of calculus which only improves my ability to teach and explain the important concepts in pre-calculus. Pre-calculus in an important step in your mathematics education.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I am close to completing my teaching credential in math and I am comfortable with all levels of high school math. I also am good at taking tests and have some tricks and skills to teach students prior to taking the SAT.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I admit that I struggled with Trigonometry the first time around, but in subsequent math classes, I have made sense of a lot of the finicky details. Also, sine squared plus cosine square equals one! The fact that this did not make sense at first also helps me to explain it better to you.
