For the past two years I have been working with a tutoring company out of Gilroy, CA. Recently, they moved their business to Texas. I'm looking to join another great tutoring company where I can continue working with elementary school kids helping to make a difference in their lives. I've been mainly working in language arts and reading comprehension. I loved the kids and they loved me too. Together we made great progress.
I also work for a local school district as a Para Educator II and soon I will be starting my eleventh year. I currently work for an RSP teacher and I am a huge part of this highly successful program. There are benefits in working for a school district, my teacher is always willing to help and she makes sure that I learn the latest and greatest techniques for successful teaching.

Sally is a great teacher. She spent time to understand what the students problem and what the parents want. Then she works very hard to find right materials to achieve our goal. She is a good and very responsible teacher.
Sally is very patient with my grandson. She encourages him and he feels good about the work he completes because of her encouragement and kind words. She is flexible and creative.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with students in an RSP special education classroom with ADHD and ADD for the last seven years. I know many strategies to use with students to help them focus and learn. Students with ADHD and ADD vary in their needs and benefit with different techniques. I am skilled at assessing what works best for each student.
I believe I am very qualified to be a tutor in Language Arts and Reading at the elementary school level, as I have an Associate's degree in Business/Computers from Heald Business College and have over two years' experience tutoring through a private tutoring company. My most recent experience is working for Alum Rock School District with an RSP teacher in a Special Education Resource Program that serves students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade who have specific learning disabilities and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Some of the more important tutoring methods I've used include story predictions, vocabulary building, engaging students in discussions, while ensuring reading comprehension and monitoring their progress with a patient, caring attitude and the goal of student success.
I am qualified to teach young kids phonics. Working at the school district has allowed me to be exposed to many different teaching methods in a Language Arts Special Education Program. A great part of the time we are working with kids who have trouble with phonics such as letter and word sounds long or short, blends in words, hearing and saying consonants in words just to name some of them. by playing fun games on the computer or designing our own it has in my experience dramatically helped kids not only with attention and focus but promotes faster learning. We have to come up with ways to keep the kids interested. Every day is different.
