Hello and welcome!
I am a CA multiple subject credentialed and experienced middle school math teacher. I tutor grades 3-8 in a variety of subjects. My BA and Multiple Subject teaching credential are from UCLA. This credential includes supplementary subject authorizations in mathematics and English and is California NCLB compliant current.
A few years ago, I started substitute teaching grades 3-8 for Union, Moreland, and Campbell, school districts and had the delight to work with elementary students grades 3 through 5 as well as middle school students. I appreciate the compassion, understanding, and charm, working with different grade levels, and the subject content articulation of where/how thematic topics continue. As a result of my experience teaching younger students, I sought to extend my teaching experience repertoire at the elementary level. The summer of 2014, I had the pleasure of teaching summer school math with two classes of 4th graders as part of a wonderful summer school enrichment program.
My favorite subject to teach is Math/Pre-Algebra from all levels of exploration. It is an important foundation and connecting bridge. Unlike other subjects, many people have strong valid feelings/opinions about math. The first step on the adventure towards success is to align self-talk to encourage success. Next, have the right guide for the journey to help you collect and develop strategies and to support, cheer, inspire, and challenge you onward. It's empowering. Math is the science of patterns and it is also a language.
I am grateful for this WyzAnt opportunity to introduce myself as a teacher/tutor for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you; let the learning begin.
*Note: Nov./Dec. 2015, involved with the process of remodeling and then moving within the area. That said, my availability at this time to schedule new tutees, while also substitute teaching and tutoring my current students, is much more challenging. Also, there may be reply time lag. Thank you for your patience. Warmly, Ms. D. Hello and welcome!

Mrs. D has really helped both of my kids, and has been extremely patient with them as they've struggled with challenging math concepts.
My daughter is a six grader and is taking 7th grade online math by herself. She always feels confused. With Ms. S's help, she is much clearer now. We know it is very important to have a good math foundation in middle school, and a great tutor would make it much easier.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with about 7 different students who were designated as aspergers and/or on the spectrum in recent years. In general, these students tend to do well to very well in math because it's structured. It's not social cue dependent or choice confusing.
I don't have special ed. or autism certification, but I do have teaching experience specifically with aspergers designated students in my middle school math classes.
My multiple subject credential earned Professional Clear status prior to 1983.
The CBEST was designed to test basic proficiency in reading, mathematics, and writing.
I also have supplementary single-subject matter authorizations on my credential in English and mathematics (through grade nine).
My Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential issued by the state of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) states that it "authorizes the holder to teach multiple subject matter (self contained) classes grades 12 and below" that would be me. So that satisfies the "Elementary (K-6th)" qualifications as documented by my state. I also hold a certificate of NCLB compliance as "highly qualified".
I have a CA CTC Multiple Subject Professional Clear Teaching Credential. I've taught mostly in the middle school/junior high school environment. The study smarter skills conundrum that is part of the middle grades, 5th through 9th grade piece can be resolved.
I am familiar with the pitfalls of long term due dates, I have experience working with students to record assignments, and I have witnessed many times what does and doesn't work for tweens.
I also have single subject authorizations in the areas of Language Arts (reading & writing)/English and math to help students extract information and problem solve.
