Hello, my name is Zarek, and I am currently in the final year of my bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Economics at Louisiana State University. Through my studies, I have developed strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills that I apply both academically and in tutoring. My background in chess began at a young age, when I competed at a high level and was ranked #1 in California for my age group under 8 and #17 in the United States for my age group at one point. Chess has remained an important part of my life, and I continue to play recreationally while relying on the same fundamentals I learned early on, including tactics, opening principles, calculation, board awareness, and strategic thinking.
I have previous chess and business related coursework tutoring experience from both high school and college, where I worked with students in one-on-one settings and helped explain difficult concepts in a clear and patient way. Those experiences taught me how to adapt my teaching style depending on the student’s age, confidence level, and learning style. My tutoring approach is structured but supportive: I explain ideas step by step, ask questions to ensure understanding, and use practice exercises to make concepts easier to grasp and apply.
I am able to tutor chess because I understand both the competitive and developmental side of the game. I especially enjoy working with younger students, beginners, and intermediate players who are still building confidence. I believe chess teaches much more than how to win games; it helps students develop patience, focus, decision-making, problem-solving skills, and the ability to learn from mistakes. One of the main reasons I want to tutor is because I genuinely enjoy seeing students improve, gain confidence, and realize that they can succeed with the right guidance and consistent effort. Please feel free to contact me at any time with additional questions or to schedule a lesson. The first lesson is always free!
