Hi, I'm Vera! I'm a rising senior at the University of Colorado Boulder studying Applied Mathematics with a computer science emphasis. I specialize in tutoring math and coding, from Algebra and Pre-Calculus through Calculus, as well as introductory Python and programming concepts for middle and high school students. I also offer SAT math prep, including the new digital SAT format. Through my undergraduate research experience implementing algorithms and numerical methods in Python and C++, I've developed a strong ability to break down complex technical concepts into clear, approachable steps, which is exactly how I approach tutoring. I genuinely enjoy helping students build confidence in STEM subjects and find that the skills that make a good researcher also make a good tutor: patience, attention to detail, and the ability to explain things multiple ways until something clicks.
My teaching approach is rooted in meeting students where they are. I start by identifying exactly where a student is getting stuck, whether it's a foundational concept they missed or a specific type of problem they find confusing, and work backwards from there. I believe that most students who struggle with math aren't bad at math, but they just haven't had it explained in a way that makes sense to them yet. As someone who has personally experienced that 'aha moment' when a difficult concept finally clicks, I make it my goal to create that experience for every student I work with. Outside of academics, I'm a classically trained pianist with a Level 10 Certificate of Merit from the Music Teachers' Association of California, which has given me a deep appreciation for the kind of disciplined, patient practice that mastery in any subject requires, including math.
