I was a Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Automation Engineer. I was a student all throughout these roles, taking a range of online technical classes from autonomous vehicle development to motion design and scripting in After Effects. I was teaching code to students K-12. I briefly designed both webpages and backend data processors for a small startup. I love programming and languages in general as the manipulation of language to convey so many different physical or linguistic functions is fascinating!!! My last role was teaching in person an Animation and Editing Instructor at a Film and Media Department for young adults on the spectrum, so yeah, you can say I scared all my family and friends when they asked me what happened to my degree. I went from white lab coat managing defects across a whole production floor of 4-7 different medical grade robotic lines and building automated dataset parsers on VBA in a research department to now improvising all these incredibly fun technical compositions for kids (they're not kids but always will be to me) brimming with passion! Every day was Engineering (-) the GD&T and (+) design (+) entertainment! All the problem solving principles gleaned through formal and informal education, like isolating variables to teasing out the solution or error, the superposition of two solutions to build just the right output...all there but disguised under new jargon.
Whatever I do, I love finding solutions and re-envisioning the problem. I love fitting puzzle pieces from different pictures. There is not an action that goes by in the day where I am not breaking down the why's. My strength is that I am NOT smart, which is why I have to be the most creative in learning and in teaching. I can empathize with not knowing, so I can see where the blindsides are for my students. My biggest strength though is creating a safe space for students to be wrong, to be silly, and to truly grow in their mistakes. I meet them where they're at.
