With a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech - one of the nation's top engineering schools - I understand that lasting success in math comes from understanding the why behind the concepts, not simply memorizing steps or formulas.

Who I work with:
• Students in Grades 3–12
• Students preparing for Math placement tests
• Students seeking Math enrichment (AOPS, Beast, Singapore, Russian)
• Students preparing for Math Competitions, including Math Kangaroo and AMC
• Students preparing for the SAT, GRE, or GMAT
• Students pursuing careers that require strong math skills
• Students with learning differences (ADHD, autism, ODD, etc.)

What makes my tutoring different?

I focus on deep understanding, problem-solving, and independent thinking.

With my 10+ years of experience - I understand the common mistakes, frustrations, and challenging concepts that students encounter, and I tailor my sessions to help them overcome those.

For SAT, GRE, GMAT, and placement test preparation, I also teach students effective test-taking strategies, and techniques for working accurately and efficiently under time pressure.

Frequent communication with parents to provide updates and ensure tutoring goals remain aligned.

Homework is personalized to each student's needs. Instead of assigning large sets of random problems, I create targeted practice that focuses on the specific concepts, skills, and error patterns we identify during our sessions.

I teach students how to leverage AI to deepen their understanding, reinforce concepts, and accelerate their learning while developing the skills to think independently. AI can be a powerful tool for learning - but it should never replace critical thinking.

For online tutoring, I use an iPad and Apple Pencil to create an interactive, real-time learning experience where students can see every step of the problem-solving process. A copy of the digital whiteboard from the session can be shared with the student.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have several years of experience tutoring Algebra 1 students with a wide range of abilities, from those who are struggling with foundational skills to those preparing for advanced coursework. I begin by identifying learning gaps that may be affecting a student's success, then create a personalized plan to build strong conceptual understanding alongside fluency. My goal is not just to improve grades, but to ensure students truly understand the mathematics and are well prepared for future courses.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

To make sense of Algebra 2 a strong understanding of Algebra 1, Geometry and Trigonometry concepts is essential. I start off with addressing any gaps in pre-requisite concepts so students are better prepared for more advance topics. I also sometimes review the material before class so students feel better prepared when the lesson is taught in-class often at a fast pace.
AMC (Competition math)

AMC (Competition math)

I have a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and 7+ years of experience preparing students in Grades 1–8 for Math Kangaroo and Grades 4-8 for AMC 8. Several of my students have achieved Top 100 rankings in Math Kangaroo and national recognition in AMC 8. My approach is to use diagnostic testing to pinpoint concept gaps, provide targeted instruction to build mastery, and timed practice to develop speed and accuracy. I have students maintain an error log that helps them identify cause of their mistakes and refine their problem-solving and test-taking strategies.
Calculus

Calculus

I hold a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and have 10+ years of experience tutoring high school students in AP Calculus. Several of my students have earned a 5 on the AP exam. I have a strong understanding of the AP exam format and expectations, and my approach goes beyond teaching the concepts. I also focus on AP-specific test-taking strategies, problem-solving techniques, and time management to help students approach challenging questions with confidence.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

The concepts learned during the Elementary years lay the foundation for strong Math skills. At this stage, it is essential that students truly understand the material rather than simply memorizing steps. When students build real understanding, they gain confidence in Math, which can open doors to future opportunities in STEM, business, and beyond. My approach focuses on making Math engaging and enjoyable by using visuals, hands-on tools, and math games to promote deep understanding. I regularly check for gaps in learning and address them early. I encourage students to show their work and explain their thinking, so they not only arrive at the correct answer but also understand the reasoning behind it.
Geometry

Geometry

I have several years of experience tutoring Geometry students, helping them develop a deep understanding of geometric concepts rather than simply memorizing formulas and theorems. I teach students how to visualize problems, write logical proofs, and apply geometric reasoning to solve challenging questions. I also strengthen prerequisite skills, such as algebra, when needed, so students have the foundation to succeed. My goal is to help students build confidence, improve problem-solving skills, and excel in both coursework and exams.
GMAT

GMAT

I scored in the 99th percentile on the GMAT and have a strong understanding of the skills required to succeed on the exam. I help students improve their performance across all GMAT sections by strengthening foundational concepts, developing effective strategies, and mastering pacing-including when to skip questions strategically to maximize their score. A key to success on the GMAT is maintaining an error log to identify the underlying causes of mistakes. I teach students how to create and use an effective error log to recognize patterns, address recurring weaknesses, and turn every practice question into a learning opportunity. **Quantitative Reasoning** My approach is to diagnose conceptual gaps and build a focused preparation plan that goes beyond teaching the concepts tested on the GMAT. I also focus on pacing, time management, and test-taking strategies to help students maximize their scores. **Verbal Reasoning** I help students develop the analytical skills needed for Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning by teaching them how to recognize the key words, understand the structure of a passage, draw logical conclusions and eliminate incorrect answer choices systematically. My approach emphasizes on learning to think the GMAT way. Every student receives a personalized plan based on their current skill level, target score, and timeline.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have several years of experience tutoring Pre-Algebra and helping students build the strong mathematical foundation needed for Algebra 1 and beyond. I begin by identifying any gaps in essential skills such as fractions, decimals, integers, ratios, and equations, then create a personalized plan to address them. My lessons focus on developing conceptual understanding through visual models, guided practice, and clear explanations so students understand why the math works. My goal is to build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and prepare students for long-term success in higher-level math.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have extensive experience tutoring Precalculus to high school students. My approach to teaching Precalculus focuses on developing a conceptual understanding rather than memorization. I help students master topics such as polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions, complex numbers, vectors, conic sections, sequences and series, and introductory limits. I emphasize the connections between these topics so students are well prepared for Calculus. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades but also to develop the mathematical reasoning and confidence they need to succeed in future STEM courses.

Best Math and Critical Reasoning Tutor!!

We are so glad we found Sweta. My son started working with her about a year ago through in-person tutoring for SAT Math preparation. She quickly identified and closed his learning gaps across Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Statistics. Sweta provided personalized worksheets that gave my son extra practice in the areas where he needed the most support. She also kept us, as parents, informed after every session by sending progress updates and outlining what they had covered. My son recently took a Bluebook practice test and scored a perfect 800 on the Math section. We have since transitioned to online lessons and have been equally impressed. Sweta is very tech-savvy and uses excellent digital tools that make the online sessions feel interactive and almost like in-person tutoring. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated math tutor.

Best tutor for SAT Math with great attitude!!!

In first couple of sessions Sweta analyzed our son's weaknesses and gave him practice questions on concepts he was struggling or unfamiliar with. During lessons, Sweta went over test taking and time management strategies along with how to use Desmos efficiently. She showed our son typical mistakes that students make and how to recognize and avoid the common SAT traps. Her patient attitude and constant encouragement helped our son increase his math SAT score from 680 to 800! She is the best for SAT Math, we highly recommend her!

Makes advance math manageable

I highly recommend Sweta to anyone studying precalculus or calculus. She has an ability to break down complex concepts into clear, easy to understand explanations. Instead of just teaching formulas, she focusses on helping you understand the reasoning behind them. This makes solving difficult problems much more manageable. Her step-by-step approach has greatly improved my confidence and understanding of the material. If you're looking for someone who can make advanced math feel doable - she is the one to go to!

Patient and Kind Tutor - Helped Our Son with ADHD Earn an A in Math

When our 14-year-old son started working with Sweta, he had been struggling with math for several years. After a late ADHD diagnosis, we understood why math was so hard for our son, but we had no idea how to help him. Sweta patiently identified the areas where he was struggling and worked to close the foundational gaps that had held him back for years. She has always been encouraging and patient with him, creating an environment where he feels comfortable learning, asking questions, and making mistakes. We also appreciate that the homework she assigns is tailored specifically to his needs. Instead of completing pages of irrelevant problems, he worked on targeted practice that strengthened the skills he was weakest in. Because the work was meaningful, he was much more willing to do it. Over the course of a year, Sweta helped him improve from a D to an A in math. She gave him strategies to manage the challenges that come with ADHD and helped him build confidence in his abilities. All along she kept us informed with updates about his progress. We feel so much more hopeful about his future now. We are incredibly grateful for Sweta's work with our son. She has made a lasting impact not only on his academic success but also our family's peace of mind.
