I attained my M.S. in Biology from the University of Oregon and my B.S. in Molecular Biology from San José State University. Between my graduate and undergraduate studies, I have a combined 3.5 years of teaching and tutoring experience. While at UO, I assisted instructors in courses such as Introductory Biology and Genetics and held office hours for students. At San José State University, I provided one on one and small group tutoring (2 to 4 students) through SJSU Peer Connections. The subjects I covered included molecular genetics, microbiology, human genetics, ecology and evolution, stem cell biology, and introductory biology. In addition, I am also comfortable tutoring writing and algebra based (non calculus) physics.

What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing my students gain confidence in their ability to learn. I believe the best way to teach someone is to first understand how they learn. My training at SJSU Peer Connections included studying various pedagogical approaches and philosophies. I have always enjoyed helping others while pursuing my own career path, which has taken many forms beyond tutoring such as mentoring junior students and colleagues. I maintain a growth mindset that applies not only to my tutees but also to myself. I am always open to feedback and resources from students or parents. Feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions or would like to schedule a meeting.

Genetics

I hold a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Oregon, where my research focused on molecular and developmental genetics using zebrafish as a model organism. I have hands-on experience in genetic manipulation techniques such as molecular cloning, PCR, and genotyping, as well as interpreting inheritance patterns and gene expression data. I have also helped undergraduate students understand core genetics concepts including Mendelian ratios, linkage, and epigenetic regulation. My teaching style emphasizes connecting molecular mechanisms to observable traits, helping students grasp both conceptual and experimental genetics.
