I attained my M.S. in Biology from the University of Oregon and my B.S. in Molecular Biology from San José State University. Between my graduate and undergraduate studies, I have a combined 3.5 years of teaching and tutoring experience. While at UO, I assisted instructors in courses such as Introductory Biology and Genetics and held office hours for students. At San José State University, I provided one on one and small group tutoring (2 to 4 students) through SJSU Peer Connections. The subjects I covered included molecular genetics, microbiology, human genetics, ecology and evolution, stem cell biology, and introductory biology. In addition, I am also comfortable tutoring writing and algebra based (non calculus) physics.
What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing my students gain confidence in their ability to learn. I believe the best way to teach someone is to first understand how they learn. My training at SJSU Peer Connections included studying various pedagogical approaches and philosophies. I have always enjoyed helping others while pursuing my own career path, which has taken many forms beyond tutoring such as mentoring junior students and colleagues. I maintain a growth mindset that applies not only to my tutees but also to myself. I am always open to feedback and resources from students or parents. Feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions or would like to schedule a meeting.
