My name is Steve, and I am passionate about helping students achieve their academic goals in writing, social studies, and beyond. I help students build effective study habits to support their long-term success. I hold a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from UC Berkeley, with an emphasis on U.S. Politics, and a Masters degree in Liberal Studies from Georgetown University, where I focused on Public Policy. I also hold a Social Studies teaching credential from the University of San Francisco.
I bring five years of teaching and tutoring experience, which includes classroom instruction in public and charter schools, as well as one-on-one sessions online and in-person. I spent three years as a substitute teacher, one year as a teacher of record, and another year as a volunteer tutor, helping students build skills and achieve academic success. Notably, I have helped several students go from Cs and Ds to As in writing and social studies.
In addition to general coursework, I have experience tutoring advanced subjects like AP U.S. History and college-level writing. My approach combines project-based learning and study skills coaching, which helps students connect their studies to real-world applications while developing habits for lifelong learning. To make history more engaging, I use storytelling techniques to bring key historical events to life, which helps students grasp complex ideas and feel more confident about the material.
I help high school students with essay-writing and college students tackle challenging research papers by tailoring sessions to their unique strengths and needs.
I have seen many students transform their grades through clear explanations, consistent practice, and encouragement. Beyond academics, my goal is to inspire confidence and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
