I am a professional K–12 educator with over a decade of experience teaching in diverse school settings — from middle and high school English, debate, and Spanish, to my most recent focus as a K–2 classroom teacher specializing in foundational literacy, math, and SEL-based learning. I hold a B.A. from UCLA, began tutoring through community education initiatives, and later joined Teach For America, where I taught in Hawai’i for six years. My work there included English, Spanish, math, PE, and state test preparation, giving me insight into how students learn across different content areas and skill levels.

After relocating to San Francisco, I taught high school English while coaching debate and supporting multilingual learners in academic writing, public speaking, and confidence-building. Alongside academics, I have coached multiple sports — including track and field, cross country, football, basketball, and middle school PE — which informs my belief that learning is physical, emotional, and cognitive. I bring that coaching mindset into tutoring: clear expectations, incremental wins, encouragement, and joyful challenge.

Today, I work primarily with elementary students on literacy, phonics, math foundations, writing, and executive functioning skills, while also supporting older students with reading, writing, debate, college readiness, and test prep. Parents describe my instruction as warm, motivating, structured, and culturally responsive. I meet students where they are, help them build skills through clarity and scaffolding, and cultivate confidence so learners feel successful.

Whether your learner is beginning to read, preparing for middle school or college, or seeking growth in speaking, writing, study skills, or in an athletics-based mindset, I would love to partner with you to help them thrive.

Debate

Debate

I bring both competitive and coaching experience to debate instruction, having competed on the UCLA Speech and Debate Team and later serving as Head Debate Coach for high school students in San Francisco. I trained and mentored diverse debaters in argumentation, research techniques, delivery, case construction, and tournament strategy — including preparing students for city-wide competitions. My work as a 9th grade English teacher also included teaching speech, rhetoric, composition, and public speaking, which strengthened my ability to scaffold persuasive communication skills across ability levels. I help students build confidence, think critically, organize ideas persuasively, and perform with clarity and conviction.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

As a trained elementary educator with a strong background in foundational math instruction, I teach core concepts such as number sense, place value, arithmetic operations, and early geometry. I use research-based teaching strategies to support conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization. My experience working with diverse learners allows me to tailor lessons to individual strengths and needs. I aim to help students build confidence and long-term mastery in elementary mathematics.
English

English

I have 14 years of experience teaching ELA writing and reading comprehension across K–12, including four years teaching high school English and AP English Language. I’ve helped many 11th-grade students strengthen literary analysis, thesis development, and timed writing skills. I’m experienced in guiding students through essays and exam preparation under tight deadlines while helping them understand structure, clarity, and effective writing organizational structure.
Geometry

Geometry

I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring Geometry, including foundations, reasoning and proofs, angle relationships, similarity, congruence, circles, and right-triangle trigonometry. I break down complex visual and spatial concepts into clear, concrete steps that students can follow with confidence. My instruction emphasizes understanding why methods work, not just memorizing formulas. I help students strengthen problem-solving skills, prepare for tests, and build a strong foundation for Algebra 2 and beyond.
Grammar

Grammar

I help students master grammar by breaking complex rules into simple, practical steps they can immediately apply. My experience teaching writing, literacy, and language skills allows me to support learners of all ages, from early elementary through adult professionals. I focus on clarity, sentence structure, punctuation, and confident communication. Students consistently see improvements in their writing, accuracy, and overall language fluency.
Philosophy

Philosophy

I hold a B.A. in Philosophy from UCLA with a strong background in symbolic and first-order logic, derivations, and formal proof construction. My studies included philosophy of mathematics and coursework that required advanced formal reasoning. I’ve also supported students in calculus and related analytical skills, which helps reinforce step-by-step problem solving for logic exams.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I am an experienced elementary educator with a strong background in helping students transition from arithmetic to prealgebra concepts. I teach core skills such as fractions, decimals, ratios, integers, and beginning equations using clear explanations and step-by-step problem-solving. My approach focuses on building confidence while strengthening conceptual understanding, not just memorization. I support students at all levels—whether they need remediation, enrichment, or preparation for higher math.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I have extensive experience teaching speech, argumentation, and performance, including three years coaching competitive debate and nine years teaching English language arts, rhetoric, and presentation skills. I’ve worked with students of all ages — from elementary SEL-based speaking routines to high school public speaking, persuasive delivery, and college-readiness communication. My coaching emphasizes clarity, structure, presence, and confidence, empowering students to speak with conviction while organizing their ideas effectively. Whether preparing for a class presentation, speech competition, or interview, I help students find their voice and perform with poise.
Reading

Reading

I have 14 years of experience teaching reading and literacy across K–12, including work with students who need support in comprehension, fluency, and detail retention. I specialize in breaking down complex texts, teaching active reading strategies, and helping students build confidence as independent readers. My background includes supporting struggling readers, students with ADHD, and English learners through structured, student-centered approaches. I tailor each session to the student’s level and needs so they can make steady, measurable progress.
Spanish

Spanish

I have over 14 years of teaching experience, including two years teaching Spanish I and Spanish II at the high school level. I completed a travel–study program in Spain while at UCLA and took four additional Spanish courses in college after four years of Spanish in high school to maintain fluency. In my current role as an elementary school teacher, I regularly use Spanish to support English language learners and communicate with families. I specialize in helping beginners build confidence with clear explanations, practical conversation skills, and patient, structured lessons tailored to their goals.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I help students expand their vocabulary through practical strategies that strengthen reading comprehension, writing clarity, and overall language confidence. My experience teaching literacy and academic writing allows me to support learners at all grade levels, including ESL students and struggling readers. I focus on word meanings, roots, context clues, and real-world application to ensure lasting retention. Students consistently gain stronger communication skills and improved academic performance.
Writing

Writing

I’ve taught ELA writing for 14 years across K–12, including four years teaching high school English and AP English Language. I also taught 9th grade writing composition and have extensive experience helping students—including those with ADHD—improve organization, reading comprehension, and written expression. My approach focuses on building skills step-by-step while developing confidence and independence in young writers.
