How can I improve my English? It's a good question and one I have been asked hundreds -- if not thousands -- of times. However, there are many effective strategies and tools for learning Engish. My job is to help you identify and use the ones that will be most effective for you. How can I improve my English? It's a good question and one I have been asked hundreds -- if not thousands -- of times. As you probably know by now, there's no one answer, no "magic bullet", and no app to learn English while you sleep (at least not yet). However, there are many effective strategies and tools for learning Engish. My job is to help you identify and use the ones that will be most effective for you. It's all personal (or if you prefer, personalized) and will change over time -- as you will see.

Is English your second -- or third -- language? Do you want to improve your English for greater success in school or in your profession? I can help you by focusing on what you want to learn and how you learn best.

Are you (or a son, daughter or friend) struggling with reading comprehension or writing skills? I can help you with learning strategies that will help overcome your difficulties and quickly see improvement.

For the past 12 years, I have been teaching English to children and adults, from beginners learning their first English words to advanced professionals needing to polish their English for career advancement. As each person learns differently, my job is to help you discover and use the approaches to learning that are best for you.

I'd like to hear more about your personal learning objectives to see if I am a good match for your needs. If so, we can work out a suitable learning plan for you and get started on your road to English language success!

Oh, and so you can feel confident that I am qualified to help you, I have a Master's Degree in TESOL from the University of San Francisco that I earned in 2004. Since that time I have taught English language learners in China (4 years), Turkey (3 years) and the United States (4 years). I love working with language learners at all proficiency levels, from basic literacy to polishing academic and professional English for career advancement. My particular specialties are communicative English teaching (to help you learn the English you need and want for your particular purpose), public speaking, writing (including business writing) and sharpening listening skills. I can help you with test preparation, focusing on effective strategies to help you achieve the score you need to advance toward your dreams.

I hope you will contact me soon.

I have been teaching ESL/ESOL to adults and children for 14 years, working both in the US and abroad. I focus on a practical, communicative approach to help my students use the language as it is used in daily life - whether in casual conversation, business or academics. I draw on authentic materials in addition to following a sound pedagogical approach based on current research about language acquisition. My students have gone on to successful careers or higher education where good English language skills are essential.

In addition to teaching English to non-native speakers for 11 years, I spent many hours during the 2014-2015 school year volunteering as a reading support specialist at Jackson Elementary School (Everett, WA) assisting students who were having difficulties reading at grade level. I understand the challenges that frustrated readers face and have developed effective methods to boost confidence, interest and skills.

Research and common sense tell us that vocabulary is best learned in context, not by memorizing long lists of words. I have been helping English learners increase their conversational, technical and academic vocabulary for 12 years as an EFL teacher and teacher trainer. My techniques are based on an integrated, student-centered approach to building vocabulary as you speak, listen, read and write -- not as an isolated memorization drill.
