I assist high school seniors through the college application process, with a particular focus on crafting strong essays and managing application materials and deadlines. I can also help you or your child develop more sophisticated expository, persuasive, and narrative writing skills, and/or deepen critical understandings of literature and written texts. Depending on your needs, I can work primarily through guided writing exercises, or discussion, or both.
With a Masters in Literature and a PhD in Drama/Theatre, I have substantial experience and expertise in interpreting and analyzing texts. I have been writing -- both creative and scholarly texts -- for twenty years, and I am extremely attuned to both the mechanics and the stylistic possibilities of written English. I have an excellent rapport with students of all ages: my students respond extremely well to my personality and my approach, and they grow and develop under my guidance.
Besides my work with writing, I am also a theatre director, and I have taught extensively in both theatre/performance and fine art criticism/appreciation. I currently teach courses in performance and critical thinking at the California College of the Arts, where I introduce students to demanding conceptual analysis through looking at examples of art, design, and performance.
