Hi! I'm Jonathan. I am a musician and educator with a B.S. with Distinction in Computer Science (with a minor in Music, Science, and Technology) and an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University. I am a tenured Computer Science instructor at City College of San Francisco, where I also served as Department Chair for six years. SUBJECTS COVERED
Computer Science: All levels, from beginners to university students. Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, MIPS Assembly, SQL, HTML/CSS, Git/GitHub, algorithms, data structures, systems, architecture, operating systems, Unix/Linux, databases, and app development.
Mathematics: Algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, discrete math, and logic. Experience includes assisting with contest math and discrete math for high schoolers through Stanford's EPGY and tutoring at SF International High School and Mission High School through Refugee and Immigrant Transitions.
Writing & Academic Support: Essay writing, research papers, study skills, and academic planning.
Music: Tonal and atonal theory as well as jazz theory.
TEACHING & INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
At CCSF, I teach courses in Python, C++, Unix/Linux, architecture, and software development, and previously led curriculum development and student advising as Department Chair. For two semesters, I taught writing, research, and foundational college study skills in a course called College Success in the Interdisciplinary Studies Department. I have also taught upper-division CS at SFSU, created high school Python curriculum for CodeHS, and served as a Course Associate at Stanford. Outside of academia, I co-founded the software consultancy Fretboard Labs and interned as a programmer at Dropbox, CodeHS, MoPub, and Cisco.
