As a tutor, my top priority is helping students succeed academically. With a Computer Science degree from UNC Asheville and a background in Liberal Studies and English from San Francisco State, I bring a unique combination of technical expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge to my tutoring. I'm also CBEST certified, which demonstrates my proficiency in core subjects and my ability to teach effectively.

As a tutor, my top priority is helping students succeed academically. With a Computer Science degree from UNC Asheville and a background in Liberal Studies and English from San Francisco State, I bring a unique combination of technical expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge to my tutoring. I'm also CBEST certified, which demonstrates my proficiency in core subjects and my ability to teach effectively.

I believe that all subjects are interconnected, and I help students not only master individual concepts but also understand how ideas across disciplines relate to one another. This approach makes learning more engaging and relevant. As someone who has personally dealt with Attention Deficit Disorder, I deeply understand the challenges that students can face. I draw on this experience, along with the skills I gained through CBEST certification and my five years as a military Educational Services Provider, to identify and address each student's unique needs. Whether I'm helping a student prepare for standardized tests like the ACT, SAT, ASVAB, or CLEP, or creating customized lesson plans, my aim is to foster subject mastery, self-awareness, and resilience.

As a tutor in North Carolina, I'm committed to working closely with students and parents to achieve the best possible outcomes. At 36, with experience ranging from traditional classrooms to military settings, I offer a mature, versatile perspective. I understand that every student is different, and I tailor my approach to ensure that each individual receives the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential. I have completed an Associates of Arts in Liberal studies from Central Texas College and currently go to California State University as a Liberal Studies major. I have taken classes in Child Development, Physical Education for k-6, Music for Elementary School Teachers. I have also taken Mathematics for teaching K-6 as well as a course designed to give tools to help teach children in all subjects.

Responsive, great easy going personality, knowlegeable

My son wasn't too happy to meet with a tutor at first. He met with Doug and felt much more confident about his knowledge of Geometry but could see where he needs work in dealing with test taking. Doug helped him see his strengths and ability in math while acknowledging that its easy to make mistakes if you rush. My son actually hopes to meet with him again - that's a huge achievement!

Flexible and so patient

Doug started working with my daughter in European history but we have moved on to chemistry and geometry. He is wonderful and so accommodating! He has a great way of explaining the lessons in very understandable way. Most of all, he has a way of making my daughter feel comfortable and at ease. I know we will continue to use him till he tires of us!

Extremely helpful with homework

Douglas has been extremely helpful in assisting my fifth grade daughter with her various homework assignments. She is currently enrolled in a private school in North County as has a variety of assignments. She does well thanks to Douglas and his ability to maintain a consistent relationship without spoon-feeding her.
