About Cody

Hi There!

My name is Cody F. and I love tutoring, especially in math and science. I graduated from The Gatton Academy of Math and Science at Western Kentucky University, named the number one public high school in the nation by Newsweek. While there I took extensive college coursework in math, physics, chemistry, biology, and the humanities while also completing my high school education. After graduating I began my undergraduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. At MIT I pursued a degree in mathematics and computer science before coming to attend Make School in SOMA to improve my software development skills.

During this time I have acquired great experience in tutoring and teaching. I have a total of 8 years of experience tutoring mathematics, particularly calculus. I also have 5 years of experience tutoring in the sciences, such as biology, chemistry, and physics. My experience has come in the form of private, one-on-one tutoring with students ranging in ages from 7th grade through adult learners, college-level review courses, and even teaching SAT prep courses.

My students find me very relatable, and I've heard from several students that having someone close to their own age work with them has been really beneficial to their learning. I look forward to working with you in the future! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have!

**Please inquire about my special rates regarding entire math course tutoring packages! A great alternative to an after school program for middle or high school students looking to refresh or get ahead, and a great way for college students to prepare for CLEP exams or study for upcoming courses!**

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I began taking the ACT in 5th grade and have taken it at least 6 times in my lifetime. My highest score in both math, reading, and english was a 36, my highest science score was a 34, and my overall highest composite score is a 35. I've also taught test prep courses professionally, so I have experience relaying important strategies for taking the SAT and ACT in addition to the basic knowledge students will be tested over.

ACT Math

I began taking the ACT in 5th grade and have taken it at least 6 times in my lifetime. My highest score in both math, reading, and english was a 36, my highest science score was a 34, and my overall highest composite score is a 35. I've also taught test prep courses professionally, so I have experience relaying important strategies for taking the SAT and ACT in addition to the basic knowledge students will be tested over.

I also received perfect scores on both the WyzAnt ACT Math and ACT English qualification tests.

ACT Reading

I began taking the ACT in 5th grade and have taken it at least 6 times in my lifetime. My highest score in both math, reading, and english was a 36, my highest science score was a 34, and my overall highest composite score is a 35. I've also taught test prep courses professionally, so I have experience relaying important strategies for taking the SAT and ACT in addition to the basic knowledge students will be tested over.

ACT Science

I began taking the ACT in 5th grade and have taken it at least 6 times in my lifetime. My highest score in both math, reading, and english was a 36, my highest science score was a 34, and my overall highest composite score is a 35. I've also taught test prep courses professionally, so I have experience relaying important strategies for taking the SAT and ACT in addition to the basic knowledge students will be tested over.

Calculus

I first took calculus as an advanced sophomore in high school and score a 5 on AP Calculus BC exam. Since then I have tutored calculus at both the AP and college level for about 5 years. It is the subject that I tutor most often and am strongest in. I have also designed and taught calculus review courses for top colleges in the Boston area. My most recent AP student had a very weak grasp of the material just a couple months before the AP exam, but after working with me was able to score a 4 on the AB version of the exam. I've also helped college-level students turn their grades around from failing to Bs and As.

Computer Programming

I have performed well in several computer science courses at MIT, the best computer science school in the world. I received in A in their introduction to programming class and was selected as a tutor for the class the following semester.

Differential Equations

I received an A in differential equations when I took it and am currently a math major at MIT. I am also a math tutor that tutors multiple courses on campus.

Python

I have performed well in several computer science courses at MIT, the best computer science school in the world. MIT's computer science curriculum is almost entirely taught in Python, and I received in A in their introduction to programming class (also in Python) and was selected as a tutor for the class the following semester. I was also a lab assistant for MITs intro to Python January course. I work as a freelance Python programmer and have experience using Python for web development. Python programming is one of my most tutored subjects.

SAT Math

I began taking the SAT in 7th grade and have taken it at least 6 times in my lifetime. My highest score in math is a 790, and I also received a score of 800 on the Math II SAT Subject Test. I've also taught test prep courses professionally, so I have experience relaying important strategies for taking the SAT and ACT in addition to the basic knowledge students will be tested over.

SAT Writing

I began taking the SAT in 7th grade and have taken it at least 6 times in my lifetime. My highest score in writing is a 750 and I scored a 2260 overall as a high schooler. I've also taught test prep courses professionally, so I have experience relaying important strategies for taking the SAT and ACT in addition to the basic knowledge students will be tested over.

SSAT

I taught test prep courses professionally for two years for the SAT and have since had great success relaying those strategies to SSAT prep students I've tutored to help them improve their scores.
