Hello! I have been a professional tutor since 2003, specializing in math (pre-algebra through AP calculus), AP statistics, and standardized test preparation. I am very effective in helping students to not just get a better grade, but to really understand the subject matter and the reasons why things work the way they do. I do this in a way that is positive, supportive, and also fun. I explain difficult math and science concepts in simple English, and continue working with students until they understand the concepts really well. All my students enjoy improvements in their grades, as well as reduction in their overall stress level.

I was an instructor at some of the top test prep companies, so among my specialties is preparation for standardized tests like SAT, ACT, SSAT, and many others. I am very effective in helping students improve their test scores: in a past testing year all of my SAT students scored 700 and above! Some of them were scoring in mid-500, when I started working with them.

I bring my full attention and dedication to the students that I work with. Since every person is unique, I personalize my approach to each student. This makes my work very effective and allows each student to truly improve their skills, knowledge, and understanding! I have helped hundreds of students, both one on one and in a classroom setting, and many of them provide excellent references and referrals for me.

Please get in touch with me – I will be very happy to help you succeed.

Statistics

Statistics

I tutor AP Statistics and college level introductory statistics courses for various disciplines: behavioral sciences, economics, health sciences, business, etc. Many students, who are new to statistics, think of it as “pure math” subject. However, a big part in learning statistics is to apply statistical reasoning to the real world situations. I teach my students both the mathematical concepts of statistics and probability, and how to apply these concepts to word problems: recognize the statistical setting described in the scenario, then apply the correct method to solve the problem. The many positive reviews left by my students attest to my effectiveness in helping them with statistics.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 methods and concepts are the foundation for all of the future studies of mathematics. However, in addition to knowing these, the results of doing algebra work must also be correct. That is why I teach my students to do the work in a disciplined and organized way: write all the steps down, check the results at each step, and organize their written work in a very clear way. These skills minimize the chance of making careless errors. I also begin to introduce students to the functionality of the graphing calculator; it's the skill that would serve them well both now, and in the future. In addition, I work with my students on test taking and study skills. There are a large number of skills learned in Algebra 1. Many students, that I tutor in upper level math, have poor command of these, so I invariably end up teaching them Algebra 1 material from the beginning.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Working with functions is a big part of Algebra 2. This includes the inverse of a function, function composition, Polynomial, Rational, Radical, Exponential, Logarithmic, and Trigonometric functions. Other concepts learned in Algebra 2 are conic sections: Parabolas, Ellipses, and Hyperbolas, sequences and series, and many others. I teach my students graphing these functions, including transformations, and how to understand the behavior of the function by analyzing its equation and graph. I also teach them how to use the graphing calculator - a very helpful and necessary skill, when working with many of the concepts of this course. To be able to do well with this material, you need to be comfortable with the skills learned in Algebra 1. I can help you review these skills, or even learn them from scratch.
Calculus,

Calculus

If you are currently taking your first course in calculus, then you have already discovered that the concepts studied here are very new and different. They are also very confusing. I can help you with some of the new concepts that are introduced in Calculus. They are: Limits, Rules of Differentiation, Related Rates, Optimization problems, Riemann sum, Techniques of Integration, Differential Equations, Parametric Equations, Polar Coordinates, and Partial Derivatives. Calculus work requires extensive use of the many different methods learned in Algebra 1. I can review these methods with you, or teach them to you from scratch. And the way I do this will make it easy for you to understand and remember.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Study of Precalculus serves as a preparation for Calculus and other higher level math subjects. It deepens student's understanding of the concepts learned previously in Algebra 2 and Geometry, as well as introducing new concepts and ideas, like Polar coordinates, Vectors, and Parametric equations. When I work with students in Precalculus, I teach them extensively the concepts of Trigonometry, various families of Functions, Analytic Geometry (Parabolas, Ellipses, etc.), and Sequences/Series. In addition, I teach them how to use the graphing calculator more effectively. Graphing calculator is a very useful tool in understanding difficult concepts, applying these concepts to problems, and checking the results of one's work.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I prepare students for the following SAT tests: Math portion of the “big” SAT and the SAT Subject Math Test, Levels 1 and 2. I began prepping students for these tests as an instructor for a couple of premier Test Prep companies. In the 10+ years since then, I have honed my skills and knowledge by prepping hundreds of students one-on-one. In addition to teaching you the timing strategies, the multiple choice based strategies, ways of using the calculator effectively, and working efficiently on each problem, I can work with you on the topics that require remediation. With this approach to standardized test preparation, I can help you improve your test score whether you are quite new to the test, already had a lot of prep, or somewhere in between.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have been preparing students for the Mathematics and Science Tests of the ACT exam since 2003. I am very experienced and knowledgeable about these tests, having helped many students get their highest scores on them. I will teach you specific strategies that are very useful for the Mathematics Test. These include proper pacing, strategies for utilizing the answer choices, and the most efficient approach to answering each question, among others. I will help you review the underlying math concepts, and teach you effective ways of using the calculator. For practice I use the actual ACT exams, that were administered to students in the past. This is in addition to the homework problems, that I assign as practice of the reviewed math material.

Trigonometry

I have tutored many students in Trigonometry, very often as part of a course in Precalculus, or as a stand alone course. In addition to the SohCahToa definition of trig functions (using the right triangle), I teach students the Unit Circle approach: the definitions of the six trigonometric functions, the radian measure of angles, and finding exact values of these functions for special angles. Once these skills are mastered, I teach students how to graph the Sinusoidal functions and the rest of the trigonometric functions, including the inverse (arc) functions. I also help my students become confident in proving (establishing) trigonometric identities, use Double-, Half-angle, and other formulas, and teach them how to solve trigonometric equations. Throughout, I teach my students the effective use of a calculator, and show them effective ways to memorize the many facts and formulas, that are used in trigonometry.

Knowledgeable and patient

My daughter just had her first math lesson wit Vladimir and she really enjoyed it. We hope to use Vladimir more often in the future. She said that Vladimir explained the how to solve difficult math problems well. When asked if Vladimir helped her understand the math concept better, she said YES.

Thankful for his Help

I was in an impossible situation in my statistic's class until I came across Vladimir's profile. I currently attend a community college and have planned to transfer to a university in the fall. In order to do this, I had to pass my statistics class. After it being three days after taking my finals and turning in all my assignments, I get an email from my professor saying that I have a 69.96% in my statistics class. He advised me to complete 4 problems within 3 days in order to pass the class with a 70%. I quickly went to the tutoring center at my school, I called multiple tutoring centers in the area and even asked another statistic's professor from my campus but NO ONE could understand the problems. I finally come across this website and thankfully found Vladimir. I messaged him about my situation and he responded quickly. We met the next day and got to work. He noticed that I was stressed and told me to relax and assured me that everything was going to be okay. We worked together as a team and he was the only person that could tackle these problems and get them done on time. I am so unbelievably thankful for his help and would recommend him to anyone who feels like they are in an impossible situation with math. Because of Vladimir I can successfully transfer to the university I was accepted to!

Excellent tutoring session

Vladimir is a straightforward teacher. He makes complicated topics clear and patiently makes sure my son understands and can replicate the material they are discussing well before moving on to new topics.

Vlad is a dynamic tutor!

As an adult making a career change, I needed Statistics as part of my degree requirement. Having not taken math in many years, I was filled with anxiety and insecurity about Statistics. I took an online Statistics class, which increased my fear even more. Vladimir worked with me not only on equations and formulas, he helped me overcome the fear that blocked my understanding of the questions. Vladimir knowledge of statistics and his love of math really shows through in his tutoring. Over the course of 16 tutoring sessions with Vladimir, I became a more disciplined student. Calm replaced anxiety and confidence replaced insecurity. All of our work together resulted in my success in passing the course. I am grateful for finding Vladimir on Wyzant. I would recommend him to anyone, especially adult learners. He understands the unique challenges and meets them with knowledge and incredible kindness.

Very Thorough

We hired Vladimir to work with our 13 year old son to prepare for the SSAT. He was able to pinpoint the areas where our son needed help and identified ways to help him improve. Valdimir was very thorough and conscientious in his instruction, had great materials designed specifically for the SSAT and worked well with our son!
