I hold a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Santa Clara University, with graduate work focused on computer vision and machine learning. I have approximately 25 years of professional software and systems engineering experience, including extensive work with Java, C/C++, Python, embedded systems, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. I enjoy helping students connect the concepts they learn in class with the way software and computer systems actually work.
Since January 2025, I have taught Advanced Java at the community-college level, working with adult college students in a classroom and laboratory setting and providing individualized help with programming concepts, debugging, assignments, and projects. This experience has given me the opportunity to work with students who have different levels of programming experience and different approaches to learning.
My teaching and tutoring approach emphasizes understanding why a solution works rather than simply arriving at working code. When a student is having difficulty, I typically start by identifying where their understanding breaks down, then work through the problem incrementally using examples, code walkthroughs, and debugging. I encourage students to reason through problems themselves, with guidance as needed, so they develop problem-solving and debugging skills they can apply independently.
I can tutor students in Java, C/C++, Python, object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, software engineering, and related computer science topics. I can also draw on my professional engineering experience to help more advanced students with systems programming, embedded software, computer vision, machine learning, software architecture, and other advanced technical topics.
Whether a student needs help understanding a difficult concept, debugging an assignment, preparing for an exam, or becoming a stronger programmer overall, I adapt the depth and pace of each session to the student's experience and goals.
