About Leena

Bio

I am an undergraduate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Physics, with a broad academic foundation that lets me tutor across many subjects. I earned a perfect 36 on every section of the ACT (English, reading, math, and science) and a 1580 on the SAT, and I scored 5s on eleven AP exams: Biology, Calculus BC, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, English Language, U.S. Government, Human Geography, Spanish Language,...

Government, Human Geography, Spanish Language, Statistics, U.S. History, and World History. This range lets me support students in math through calculus, the sciences, computer science, English and writing, history and social studies, and Spanish.
I have tutored and taught for several years, and I care as much about how a student learns as what they learn. This past semester I volunteered as a tutor with Cambridge School Volunteers, supporting students in Grades 6 through 8 in after-school Learning Centers. I was matched one-on-one with a student referred by their teacher, and in each session I helped with homework, reinforced study skills, and provided general academic coaching in a patient, supportive setting. Rather than simply giving answers, I ask questions to find where a student's understanding breaks down, explain the idea in more than one way, and let the student do the thinking so the learning sticks.
My experience spans a range of ages and settings. As a reading and advanced-math tutor at Kumon I taught over fifty students, from elementary learners to teenagers, over a year, and as a computer science mentor with Girls Who Code I taught roughly fifty elementary and middle school girls in weekly sessions. Through FIRST Tech Challenge robotics I led hands-on STEM activities for hundreds of children. I have worked one-on-one and in small groups, in classroom, after-school, and volunteer settings, always aiming to help each student not just reach the right answer, but understand and enjoy the material

I navigated the college admissions process myself and earned acceptances to MIT, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania's M&T program, and Johns Hopkins, so I understand what a strong application looks like from the inside, from choosing where to apply to essays, activities lists, and interviews. As a current MIT student, I've read and given feedback on 10+ students' application essays and coached applicants through the process, helping students get into top schools like UPenn & UC Berkeley. I help students build a balanced school list, shape their experiences into a compelling narrative, and prepare for interviews through mock sessions and honest feedback. Whether you're just getting started or finalizing your applications, I'll help you put together an authentic, standout application.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I am a Computer Science major at MIT with hands-on experience across programming, web development, and data science, and I earned 5s on both AP Computer Science A and AP Computer Science Principles along with IT Specialist certifications in Java and Databases. I currently work as a software engineering intern building real applications in Python, Java, and TypeScript, so I can teach not just syntax but how programming is actually used to solve problems. As a computer science mentor with Girls Who Code, I taught roughly fifty elementary and middle school students the basics of web development and data science, and I'm comfortable meeting beginners exactly where they are. Whether a student is writing their first line of code, preparing for an AP CS exam, or debugging a project, I break concepts into small, hands-on steps that build real understanding and confidence.
