Hello! My name is Sonu, and I am a plant scientist and molecular biologist with over 7 years of academic and research experience in biology, genetics, and agricultural sciences. I hold a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, where I specialized in molecular breeding, abiotic stress tolerance, and crop improvement.
I am currently working as a Research Consultant at New Mexico State University (NMSU), where I guide and tutor two Ph.D. students in plant physiology, plant biology, and plant genetics. During my Master’s and Ph.D. programs, I successfully taught and mentored seven Indian students, helping them clear prestigious national-level competitive exams, including the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India(CSIR), Department of Biotechnology, India(DBT), and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, India (GATE).
My teaching credentials are supported by multiple awards, including:
Best Oral Presentation at the Second National Genetics Congress (2024)
Best Poster Awards at the Indian Rice Congress (2020) and National Seed Congress (2019)
ICAR-SRF Fellowships, Government of India (Ph.D. – All India Rank 4, MSc – All India Rank 10)
CSIR-NET & ICAR-NET qualification for lecturing in Indian universities
Subjects I Specialize In
High school & college-level Biology (Grades 9–12 and undergraduate)
Botany, Genetics, and Plant Physiology
Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and Genomics
Environmental Science and Agriculture
Research skills: experimental design, data analysis (R, PBTools, etc.), and scientific writing
Teaching Method
My teaching style blends conceptual clarity with real-world examples to make lessons engaging and relevant. I use interactive discussions, diagrams, and problem-solving exercises to ensure deep understanding. For advanced learners, I integrate examples from my own research in rice, wheat, and peanut genetics, linking theoretical knowledge to cutting-edge scientific applications.
