I earned my Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing from Clemson (’19), where my research wove together machine learning, biostatistics, and collective-intelligence theory. After Clemson I joined Stanford’s Biomedical Data Science department as a research scientist, building Python- and R-based pipelines for genomics and drug-discovery projects. Alongside university work I founded a San Francisco consulting studio that trains developers through pro-bono projects for nonprofits, so my tutoring is rooted in the real intersection of code, data, and impact.

Much of my teaching expertise comes from TRACE Camp, a Clemson-funded, three-week immersive boot camp whose full-stack curriculum I created and taught to non-CS majors. I also TA-ed Clemson’s introductory CS courses, led coding-club workshops for high-schoolers, and mentored grad students pivoting into AI roles. These experiences let me coach learners in Python, JavaScript/HTML & Web Design, Data Science, Biostatistics, Biology, and Genetics—skills I still use daily. For standardized tests, I draw on 90th-plus-percentile GRE and SAT results to craft individualized playbooks that lift scores into top bands. And as a native Italian speaker and long-time debate coach, I guide students in Italian, Literature, Philosophy, American History, Social Studies, and Public Speaking.

My teaching method combines spaced-repetition tools and mastery-based learning, inspired by the Bloom 2-Sigma Effect, which shows one-on-one tutoring can move students past 98 % of their peers. I take this further by building custom software—interactive coding exercises or personalized progress dashboards—so each student grasps and retains fundamentals while applying them to real-world projects. I also offer a free 15-minute consultation and a straightforward 24-hour cancellation window to keep scheduling stress-free.

Efficient and Thorough

As a business owner, and parent, time is always tight. Lorenzo adjusted the lesson to fit what I needed. Using the latest tools, AI, but not so much that I didn't know the how it was built and learned in the process. My goal was to teach my kids how to code, and learn myself. I only had a few lessons, but the progress and general direction is good.

Lorenzo is clear, knowledgeable and fun to work with

He has been basically teaching a psychologist Luddite the basic principles for how a LLM works. He is helping me understand how to improve prompts, optimize output and understand how AI works
