Hi, I'm Sam! I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science in 2015 and have worked as a software engineer with a focus on full-stack web development for over 6 years since then. I also have over a year of experience teaching web development skills for a coding bootcamp. I love teaching and helping students learn the skills they need to accomplish their goals!

I enjoy helping people and I am a very curious person, so I like sharing what I've learned over the years with others. I was lucky enough to be able to learn programming and how to work with technology despite the many barriers that exist, so I feel very proud to be able to give back to the community by passing on those skills to my students. It's an honor every time I can help a student understand something better.

I'm very passionate about making learning accessible for my students. I have mostly worked with college-age students and other adult learners, but I also have some experience teaching high schoolers and believe I can help students of all ages understand the material they're trying to learn. I have worked with students who don't speak English as their native language, students with disabilities (including, ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities such as dyslexia), and students raising children, so I know how to support students with a variety of learning challenges. I particularly enjoy working with women, queer people, and people from other communities underserved by the White male-dominated tech industry. Regardless of where you're coming from, I'm confident I can translate the technical information and jargon into a form that makes sense to you.

Even if it takes some time for a student to understand certain concepts, I am patient with them and try to be encouraging no matter what. I want to answer all of the questions students have so they have a deep and complete understanding of the material. If you have any questions for me or want to schedule a lesson, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to working with you!

A huge help for students facing overwhelming projects.

Samantha is helping me get back into coding after a 3-year hiatus. She is knowledgeable, patient, and an excellent communicator! I would recommend her to anyone looking to expand or build upon their skills. Samantha also proved to be flexible and accommodating when I faced technical issues and I felt our time together was well-spent even if it didn't go exactly as I planned. I look forward to more lessons in the near future and beyond 🙌

Adaptive and Patient

Samantha taught me a few tools to revise my machine learning code through GEE, which uses JavaScript. She’s quite adept at JavaScript, which helped me understand where I was going wrong. After explaining my goals, she was able to understand the technical process of my project and help me overcome a few hurdles with my land over classification problem. Samantha was able to scan through example codes about randomization and area calculations in order to help me implement it in a way that fit the purposes of my code. Any time I expressed concern or confusion about a certain coding topic, Sam took the time to explain. It was great to have a tutor that was patient enough to hear about the remote sensing portion of the project, so that we could work together and tackle the issue I was running into!

If you are seeking a Japanese tutor who is both highly skilled and deeply committed to the nuances of phonetics, Samantha is your tutor. Samantha's dedication to refining pronunciation is amazing. Unlike many language instructors who gloss over phonetic precision, she meticulously deconstructs each syllable, ensuring that I was developing an authentic accent from the very foundation. For learners who take their Japanese studies seriously—particularly those who understand the indispensable value of mastering pronunciation—she is invaluable. Her expertise, combined with her affordable pricing, makes her an outstanding choice for anyone striving for fluency with precision.
