My name is Simon and I am a Software Engineering Manager at Peloton Cycle. I tutor because I enjoy simplifying complex concepts and I love seeing the "aha!" moment when a student makes a breakthrough in understanding. Too often, we tell ourselves that we're "not math people" or "aren't engineers" and I enjoy challenging those negative ideas. I primarily tutor for coding interviews (for software developer jobs), Computer Science, and standardized tests like the SATs (I got 2350/2400), ACTs (32/36), SAT II Math II (800/800). I also provide college admissions counseling (I was accepted into Yale, Stanford, and several other schools).
I graduated with MS/BS degrees in Computer Science (3.9 GPA) from Stanford University and have been a software engineer for prestigious tech companies like LinkedIn, Bloomberg, Palantir, and Peloton. I excel at simplifying complex concepts and have more than 10 years of experience total as a private tutor and 3 years of experience as a Computer Science teaching assistant in college. I've worked with students of all ages from a 10 year old preparing for the SHSAT to 40 year olds who are preparing for coding interviews.
As a Coding Interview coach, I have gone through more than 200 programming interviews myself and gotten offers from companies like Palantir, Microsoft, Apple, Stripe, and Gusto. I have interviewed more than 100 candidates and know the questions that companies tend to ask. I’ve worked for about 10 years in technology in Silicon Valley and New York City and have connections at most tech companies, so I can make referrals for students.
For college admissions counseling, I applied to multiple colleges and received acceptances from very selective colleges, including but not limited to Yale, Stanford, UChicago, Dartmouth, Pomona, etc. I’ve mentored more than 2 dozen students on college essay writing and how to ace the SATs, and have had mentees accepted to Cornell, NYU, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford.
