Hi, my name is Chris Garcia, and I have been in education for the last 10 years. My background includes teaching students who range in age, ability levels, and socioeconomic status I was fortunate enough to be a part of an iPad rollout Global Expedition project with the University of San Diego in 2012 in the savannahs of Nanyuki, Kenya. There, I worked closely with a team of teachers and other graduate students providing professional development in teaching pedagogy through the use of mobile technology. In addition, I was a part of a brand new team of teachers that opened up a state-of-the-art school in Chula Vista, California. I have enjoyed working closely with my community and implementing 21st-century technology skills in and outside of the classroom. I received a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of California Davis; a Masters' in Education with a focus on Curriculum & Instruction from the University of San Diego.
I've had experience tutoring students after school only to see them grow in their grade level or advance and be prepared for the upcoming grade level.
I've been part of math curriculum developments within my district and understand all common core math standards. Being able to transition from traditional understanding to the new expectations of common core are my specialties. I like taking what is complicated in math and making it easy to understand.
I want to make sure students feel confident and ready to take on the next lesson at school. More importantly, develop a problem-solving mindset that allows them to navigate and learn on their own moving forward across all grade levels.
