Hi! My name is Farah A., and I’m really excited to work with you.
I’m an experienced teacher and tutor with an MFA in Poetry/English and a Bachelor’s in English and Creative Writing. I’ve been working with young people for over 10 years, including English language learners, and I currently work as a Lead Teacher at a nonprofit that supports foster youth. I started tutoring in after-school programs, and I’ve loved helping students ever since.
When we work together, my goal is to help you actually understand what you’re learning, not just finish an assignment. I know school can sometimes feel confusing or even pointless when things don’t click, so I focus on breaking things down in a way that makes sense and feels useful in real life. I also want you to feel more confident in your reading, writing, and thinking skills.
When I plan lessons, I like to use real life examples and hands on activities whenever possible. I try to keep things fun and engaging because I know English is not always the most exciting subject for everyone, but I have a lot of strategies to keep us focused, awake, and motivated.
In my current role, I often work with small groups of 3 to 4 students. I like when we can have real conversations about what we are learning, instead of just memorizing answers. Sometimes we focus on reading together, and other times we practice speaking and building confidence with language in a more natural way.
Most of my experience is in English, reading, and writing, but I’ve also supported students in elementary math, science, and social studies. I’ve worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, and I always try to meet you where you are. No judgment, just support. I care a lot about making sure every student feels seen, supported, and capable of succeeding.
Right now, I’m also working toward my single subject teaching credential because I’m committed to growing as an educator and continuing to support students in the best way possible.
