At the same time, I worked as a writing facilitator and English tutor for several on-campus programs, including the Preuss School, Upward Bound, and the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services. These experiences strengthened my editing and proofreading skills while allowing me to build strong relationships with middle school, high school, and incoming college students.

In addition to my studies in English, I pursued advanced coursework in both Spanish and French. I minored in Spanish Literature and completed several French literature courses, conducting literary analysis, research, and academic writing in both languages at the college level.

A few years later, I earned a Bilingual Single Subject Teaching Credential from San Diego State University, specializing in English Language Arts and English as a Second Language. This credential also includes a bilingual authorization in Spanish. I subsequently completed a Master of Arts in French, with a concentration in modern French literature, at Middlebury College. As part of this program, I studied abroad in Paris, where I completed advanced literature courses at Sorbonne Université and the Middlebury School in France.

Throughout my career, I have accumulated extensive experience in education in both the United States and Europe. Over the past decade, I have held positions as an English and Spanish teacher, as an English language assistant, and as an English, Spanish, and French tutor in the USA, Spain, and France. I have worked with students in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker, and I have studied the language academically since the age of four. In college, I completed a minor in Spanish Literature, which involved taking advanced courses in which I analyzed texts, conducted research, and wrote essays in Spanish at the university level. During this time, I also had the opportunity to tutor Spanish students at the Preuss School, a combined middle and high school. Additionally, I participated in a Teaching Assistant Program in Spain, which allowed me to gain firsthand knowledge of another Spanish-speaking country’s culture, history, and linguistic variations. Most importantly, I have worked as a Spanish instructor for the University of San Diego’s Upward Bound Program, where I taught Spanish to high school students. I have also provided private Spanish tutoring and instruction for over three years.

Awesome!

Silvia assisted my 7 year old son with Spanish— English is his primary language and neither my wife or I speak Spanish. She is personable and friendly and engaged my son from the beginning! Great work and I highly recommend her.
