At the same time, I volunteered and worked as a writing facilitator and English tutor for many on-campus programs such as the Preuss School, Upward Bound, and the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services. These experiences helped me strengthen my editing and proofreading skills as well as my rapport with middle school, high school, and incoming college students. While in college, I also studied both Spanish and French, minoring in Spanish literature and taking several courses in French literature. Consequently, I analyzed texts, conducted research, and wrote essays in college-level Spanish and French. Upon graduating from UCSD, I worked for a government-sponsored program, One-On-One Learning with Laptops, where I tutored middle school and high school students one-on-one assisting them with grammar, reading, and writing. Furthermore, I worked as an English Teaching Assistant in Spain and France, (for one year and two years respectively) conducting mainly interactive activities aimed at improving students' listening and oral skills. I earned a Single Subject Teaching Credential from San Diego State University specializing in the teaching of English Language Arts and English as a Second Language which includes a bilingual authorization in Spanish. I also possess a master's degree in French (with a focus on modern French literature) from Middlebury College. As part of this program, I studied abroad in Paris, taking literature courses at Sorbonne Université.

During my stint in Paris, I was part of an association named ALFEE, where I enhanced my knowledge of French through writing and theater workshops as well as reading clubs and various other cultural activities under the instruction of French professors. Spanish

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker; I grew up speaking Spanish at home, and I have also studied the language at school since the age of four. In college, I minored in Spanish literature which means I took several courses where I analyzed texts, conducted research, and wrote essays in college-level Spanish. At that time, I also had the opportunity to tutor students in Spanish at a joint middle school and high school, the Preuss School. I have also participated in a Teaching Assistant Program in Spain which allowed me to learn about another Spanish-speaking country's culture, history, and language variation first-hand. Most importantly, I have worked as a Spanish high school instructor for the University of San Diego's Upward Bound Program. I have also tutored and taught Spanish privately for over two years.

Awesome!

Silvia assisted my 7 year old son with Spanish— English is his primary language and neither my wife or I speak Spanish. She is personable and friendly and engaged my son from the beginning! Great work and I highly recommend her.
