Hello! My name is Matthew and I'm a 3rd Emergency Medicine Resident Physician at UCSD going into my Chief Resident year. I graduated from Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. My education has provided me with a deep understanding of human physiology, psychology, and biostatistics that I would love to use to help students reach the goals they desire. Additionally, I am an alumnus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychobiology with Cum Laude Latin Honors. This has provided me with a strong foundation in biology, psychology, and statistics for medical school. Of note, I have scored well on the following standardized tests: SAT, AP Exams, MCAT, USMLE Step 1, and USMLE Step 2 CK.
I have around four years of experience tutoring and mentoring undergraduate (18-21 years old) and graduate-level students (21+ years old) in psychology, medicine, physiology, and career advising. These tutoring experiences have been a mix of one-on-one lessons and in the setting of a classroom. Throughout my experiences, I have gathered various different styles and I try to use a style that best fits each individual student. In addition to teaching the content, I ensure to teach the best evidence-based studying strategies such as active learning, spaced repetition, and case-based content. This allows my students to not only have mastery of the content but become better students overall.
