I am a Japanese national and have been living in the United States since 2001. I currently live in San Diego, California.
I graduated college in Japan and my major was education. My courses focused on international culture and the classes prepared me to teach the Japanese language and culture to foreigners.
I am currently teaching more than 30 classes a week including classes at a language school and private in-home and online tutoring, So far, through the many years of being a tutor, l have taught and am still currently teaching Americans, 2nd and 3rd generation Japanese-Americans, British, Chinese, Koreans, Philippinos, Taiwanese and others, ranging from elementary students to retirees privately and tutored them in various aspects of Japanese depending on their individual needs through English instruction. However, I am currently only accepting those students who are in high school or above.
The thing I love most about tutoring is seeing the face and eyes of a student that has been having a difficult time with a lesson, when he/she finally grasps what I have been trying to teach them. Another favorite thing about tutoring is watching the evolution of a student over time and knowing that I am solely responsible for that progression.

I am very thorough and patient when it comes to tutoring my students. I will go to any length to make sure that whatever it is that I am teaching them will be absorbed by them resulting in their betterment, thereby building a sound foundation from which to build.

For beginner level learners
One of my study materiels when I was learning English was listening to a radio program for English learners broadcasted weekdays. The radio personality wrote a message in the monthly issued textbook that said, "Someday, the day will come when you can feel that all your devotion to your language study would not be a burden anymo

Great!

he is so kind! Working with him is very easy. I have learning disabilities so I need a lot of explaining and he has been so understanding and helpful. Going slow whenever i need it or repeating things multiple times if i ask. Really recommend him!

Caters the class to your liking

Mr. Ueno(san) quickly has addressed a lot of my language needs in a few weeks. He established a great system of starting with conversation and then we go over grammar/language structures. He challenges me. He gives me very useful practice so I can speak correctly.

Kazu-sensei is amazing!

Been learning from Kazu- sensei for over 6 months and my Japanese has been improving a lot! My wife is Japanese and I can actually communicate with her family, which is a pretty big deal for me. I cannot thank Kazu-sensei enough for all the patience, caring in pushing me when needed and dedication. Thank you sir!

Helpful and patient!

He began me at a very easy paced study of hiragana and we progressed into phrases, proper grammar as well as some katakana. He also answered any questions I have. He is an outstanding sensei!!!

excellent tutor

We chose Kazu after reviewing his detailed profile and amazing reviews. Our experience with him confirms we made the right choice. Kazu taught my son beginner Japanese. It's his first Japanese lesson. From my observation, Kazu is very experienced and very approachable. My son thinks Kazu is a very nice teacher and taught him a lot in one hour. We look forward to the next lesson with Kazu!

Great First Lesson

We covered so much and helped me build. stronger structure from what I did know. I really liked his energetic and patient approach to my learning. He took the time to explain things repeating sentences and helping to develop both reading and listening skills while giving me time to practice speaking and working only pronunciation. It was a wonderful first lesson and I hope I can work more with him to really learn the language.

Enthusiastic teacher

Kazu is very patient with slow learners like me! I have learned a lot this past 1-1/2 years. He takes time to answer questions. I do as much as I can given my work schedule and busy life.
