ADHD

ADHD

I worked for four years as a writing tutor for disabled students at Grossmont Community College in El Cajon, California. This means that I have four years of experience successfully tutoring students with ADHD. I helped many students with ADHD compose essays and successfully complete their classes by teaching them ways to overcome their disability. For example, I taught them to break their assignments into small steps so they could focus on and complete one task at a time until their work was finished. With ADHD students, I keep instructions simple, the workspace quiet, and always tutor them in a positive, encouraging manner.
Braille

Braille

I have been reading Braille myself since age four. I have over seven years of experience teaching and tutoring English reading and writing. I also have almost two years of experience teaching blind students at a school for the visually impaired. My excellent teaching and tutoring skills, along with my extensive knowledge of Braille, make me more than qualified to tutor students learning Braille.
Literature

Literature

My qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature. More than ten years teaching and tutoring English literature, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing strategies. Many letters from students, saying how they were afraid of writing, and how much they love it now.
Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook

I have worked as a computer trainer for for seven years--at the San Diego Center for the Blind, Grossmont Community College, and as an independent contractor for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. I have taught both disabled and nondisabled people how to use Microsoft Outlook, as well as many other computer programs. I start by finding out what they are having trouble with and then teaching them how to do it in the easiest way that works best specifically for them.

Study Skills

Study Skills

First, I have a Bachelor's degree and all but one semester of a Master's degree, which gives me several years of personal experience using study skills. Second, I taught reading and writing at the university level for two years, and also tutored community college students for more than seven years, most of whom needed to learn study skills. I have taught countless students such things as how to organize papers and computer files, how to read with a purpose, chart and annotate texts, and take effective notes.

Very Knowledgeable in English and Writing Topics

We hired Deanne to tutor our HS junior son in English. He was working on a common core required project, an argumentative essay with a annotated bibliography. A passing grade is required to pass the class and it was a huge weight on us, never having had to compete a similar project really made us feel helpless. After our first meeting with Deanne she settled our nerves and explained the project, the steps to get to the finish line and really developed confidence within our son. It was such a relief for all of us. Over several sessions Deanne guided our son through the project and set manageable goals each week (we had 2 sessions per week for about 4 weeks). The paper was due in steps; outline, bibliography, ruff draft, and then the final paper. I would highly recommend Deanne if you or someone you know needs help with an English or writing assignment. Thanks, Deanne!

Great English teacher

We were very impressed with Deanne’s ability to thoughtfully explain her plan with teaching my daughter English and getting ready for the ACTs.
