For over 10 years, I have taught business English lessons, led writing and oral English classes at colleges abroad, assisted secondary school students learning English in public schools in Spain, and taught grammar and writing at private English language schools in the USA. Also, I have provided private ESL tutoring to students of different ages. My experience includes teaching in Los Angeles, China, San Diego, Saudi Arabia, Vermont, Orange County, and most recently virtually to professionals in Spain and Turkey.

I currently manage virtual educators for Georgetown University and myself give private English lessons virtually. I enjoy working with pupils, from kids to adults, and helping them improve their English! I specialize in building confidence in speaking and business English. If you are new to American culture, you will benefit from how I teach socio-linguistics to help you have more effective communication. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or to schedule a free introductory session.

Since I love learning about new cultures and interacting with people, I have done individual ESL tutoring since 2005 when I started tutoring students that were studying abroad at University of California, Riverside (UCR). My focus was on oral English, getting students to practice their English while correcting their mistakes/weak areas. Also, I helped students build confidence in speaking. During my junior year, I tutored math students at a local high school and really enjoyed working with youth. I received my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from UCR. After graduating, I worked in Costa Rica for a few months and then did in-house marketing in Orange County.

I earned my 120+ hour TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate at UCR in 2010. There, I learned to teach English as a language at all levels, ranging from kindergarten pupils to college students to business professionals, abroad and in the USA.

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I graduated from high school with exceptional grades and went on to further my education with a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate (TESOL). I have tutored math classes at a local high school as well as mentored and tutored kids at local libraries and parks. I have also worked in day cares and as a baby sitter, helping kids with work. I have formal teaching experience when it comes to ESL and have taught both kids and adults.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have been an ESL tutor since 2005 when I joined UCR’s Conversation Partners. Since, I have been helping English language learners improve their English and build confidence. In 2010 I graduated from the one year TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate program at UC Riverside. Through the program I learned to teach English as a language at all levels ranging from kindergarten kids to college students to professional workers, abroad and in the USA. My last course in the TESOL program consisted of me teaching my own class for ten weeks. I worked as an English teacher for ELS Language Schools; I started as a substitute and then taught my own business English class. I taught written and oral English at a college in China for a year and half while also teaching speaking and listening classes to middle school and high school students at a summer camp and tutoring individual teens on my weekends. I taught English (grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing) at the International Academy of English in San Diego from April 2012 to August 2013. Then, I went to teach English in Saudi Arabia for a school year. Upon my return to the USA, I tutored students at an adult language school and taught my own class of high school students in Vermont. Now that I am back in California, I have been teaching ESL at schools and through private tutoring.
Writing

Writing

As part of my TESOL certificate requirements, I took two ten-week grammar classes and a class on how to teach writing. I passed all of them with an A. After receiving my certificate, I taught 'English Writing and Rhetorics' (a beginner writing class) and ‘Advanced Writing’ at a college in China.

Professional and Patient English Teacher.

Laura is an excellent teacher. Our company asked Laura to be the English teacher for our expats, and it's been a great experience learning from her. Laura is very professional and experienced in ESL teaching and is very patient with students, always being open and available for questions. She arranges her lessons to suit each student’s needs, which is very helpful for our expats. She also prepares her own teaching materials outside of the business English textbook and incorporates various practice exercises. After each lesson she gives out notes on what the students need to work on to improve their English, which is also very helpful. We also appreciate her flexibility in scheduling the lessons. Even with our expats’ busy work schedule, Laura carefully follows up and makes sure that the expats don't miss their lessons. We highly recommended Laura to anyone who wants to improve their English.

Thank you, Laura! =)

I'm so lucky to have an amazing tutor, Laura. She is knowledgeable and kind. She asks me questions and encourages me to ask her questions as well, which I find incredibly helpful. She corrects my grammatical errors and often gives me a chance to speak. I especially enjoy finding great and inspiring videos to discuss with her. Thank you, Laura!
