COVID 19 Update: I now do all of my tutoring online. I use Zoom and a document camera to provide notes for my students. I then send pictures of my notes (and my handouts) to my student at the end of the session.

It's not as good as in-person tutoring but my students have given me a lot of positive feedback. As usual, if you are not 100% happy with your session, you pay nothing.

This class develops skills that are used in subjects as diverse as trigonometry, calculus and statistics. Most students breeze through the early material but then hit the wall when it comes to factoring. Unfortunately, factoring is the crucial skill that students must learn in algebra. The good news is that I have developed a proprietary system for factoring that will make factoring one of your favorite things to do. Instead of fearing factoring, you will come to love it as I do!

Algebra 2

Subject matter covered in this class includes matrices, radicals, logarithms, domain, absolute value and systems of equations. In addition, graphing becomes more extensive and complicated. My methods for teaching these subjects are unique and based on my experience tutoring thousands of students over 10 year+ time period. Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is known as a "major changer." What this means is that many students end up changing their major when they hit calculus. Do not be one of the 50% who fails calculus I. I can get you through this class with a minimum of pain. Let me translate all of the abstract symbols, formulas and definitions into plain English. I also have many handouts that help you get through some of the tougher spots. Please don't wait until you have failed a test or two to get help. Contact me early and reduce your stress and increase your scores.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I take a sophisticated approach to teaching the material in this class. I show students the connection between precalculus and calculus. I like to bring students up to speed on many calculus concepts while they are in precalculus. For instance, I teach students about limits and the difference quotient which are both covered in the first few weeks of calculus. In addition, I will introduce them to the first derivative so that they are not overwhelmed in calculus I.
Statistics

Statistics

I have tutored hundreds of students from across the United States in introductory statistics. This includes all of the schools in the San Diego area as well as USC and UCLA. In addition, I've helped students at East Coast schools such as Cornell, Boston University (BU), New York University (NYU), Columbia University and Georgetown. Lastly, I've also helped students at TCU. At our first session, I start with several handouts that translate all of the Greek letters and abstract symbols into plain English. After that, I use my 20+ other handouts to create templates for you to follow. In addition, I teach you how to remember important information using proven memory techniques. I also share with you a unique way to remember how to use your graphing calculator to easily solve challenging problems. Working together, I'm confident I can get you through statistics.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

If you did well in geometry, then you will do well in trigonometry. However, if you did not, then trig will literally have you going in circles. Speaking of circles, one of the first things I do is to teach my students how to draw the unit circle. Being able to easily draw the unit cicle is a big stress reducer! I also have unique ways of remembering the dozens of formulas that trig uses. Lastly, I have a special graphing technique that will make graphing trig functions super easy.

An outstanding, kind, and caring tutor!

I cannot express how wonderful Kirk was during my first semester as a college freshman. He gladly helped me an endless number of times with statistics. Whether he spent 30 minutes with me, or 3 hours, he always had a smile on his face. He values what he teaches and takes pride in helping his students succeed. After we concluded every tutoring session, I instantly felt a sigh of relief. He turned my stress into ease. Additionally, he had a way of putting things into perspective with his personal notes, drawings, and colored pens. If I didn't understand something that others might consider to be an easy concept, there was never an ounce of judgment from Kirk. I never hesitated to ask the same question multiple times. He willingly clarified any confusion. While I don't mind math, I definitely have more of a literature brain. Knowing this, math can sometimes be intimidating. However, this intimidation did not last long with Kirk's guidance and constant encouragement. Before and after every test, he made the effort to check in with me. He instills confidence in his students, and I cannot stress that enough. It can be difficult to balance the workload and stress that comes with certain courses, but he believes in you! He is an incredible teacher! In the end, Kirk helped me earn an A in statistics. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him.
