I am a California-licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist and certified Medical Technologist (MT) through American Medical Technologists (AMT), with approximately 30 years of professional clinical laboratory experience, with a strong focus on clinical microbiology. I earned my degree in Bacteriology and Clinical Laboratory Technology from Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca University in Colombia and completed an International Master’s in Tropical Parasitic Diseases through the Department of Parasitology at the University of Valencia in Spain, a 450-hour program that included theoretical and practical training.
My professional experience includes clinical microbiology, bacterial identification, Gram stains, cultures, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, clinical specimen processing, quality control, and interpretation of laboratory results. I have worked in clinical laboratory settings where microbiology findings must be connected to the patient, specimen, and clinical situation. I also have previous classroom teaching experience, although my formal teaching experience was earlier in my career. Throughout my professional career, I have continued to explain laboratory concepts and procedures to colleagues and learners in clinical settings.
My tutoring approach is practical, supportive, and focused on understanding rather than memorization. I help students work through microbiology step by step, using clinical cases and laboratory clues to understand why an organism or identification result makes sense. I am especially interested in helping MLS/CLS students who are preparing for microbiology exams, struggling with organism identification, or having difficulty connecting classroom concepts with real clinical laboratory practice. My goal is to help students become more confident in recognizing patterns, interpreting laboratory findings, and thinking like a clinical microbiologist.
