I’ve had the pleasure of teaching mathematics at the middle-school level for 31 years, and one of the most rewarding parts of my career has been helping students develop confidence in math and experience that “Aha!” moment when something finally clicks.
Over the years, I’ve taught thousands of students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles. Because I’ve focused exclusively on middle-school mathematics, I’ve developed a deep understanding not only of the math students need to learn, but also of the different ways they learn it. If one explanation or approach doesn’t make sense to a student, I can draw on many different strategies to find one that does.
My goal isn’t simply to help students get the right answer. I want them to understand why the mathematics works and to become better, more confident problem solvers. I enjoy presenting math as something to explore and investigate rather than simply a collection of rules and procedures.
My primary areas of expertise are middle school level and early high school math. I also enjoy working with elementary students who are preparing to make the transition to middle-school.
To make the most of our time together, I appreciate having questions, worksheets, or other materials sent to me in advance whenever possible. This allows me to familiarize myself with what the student is working on and come prepared with ideas and strategies that can make our time together as productive as possible. Parents are also welcome to share any information they think would help me better understand their student’s needs.
If you’re looking for an experienced tutor who can adapt to the way your student learns, I’d be happy to help. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson. For cancellations, I would appreciate at least one hour notice whenever possible.
