Hello, my name is Audrey. As a high school senior, I've been learning Latin for the past 11 years up to Honors Latin IV. I have taken the National Latin Exam twice, and achieved a Magna Cum Laude score for both Advanced Latin Reading and Comprehension and Advanced Latin Prose. I’ve also read through works by Caesar and Virgil such as De Bello Gallico and The Aeneid while picking up on nuances like Gerundives, Ablative Absolutes, and Periphrastics. I have two years of experience tutoring students one-on-one in Latin (grades 4-8). These students were typically either struggling in the class or needed to start from scratch. I provided both in person and online instruction to them. This helped my students build up vocabulary and grammar skills to allow them to proficiently read basic texts. I used Google Sheets and other platforms to organize all the endings, vocabulary, and grammar concepts for my students as we learned them. I’m especially experienced working with kids as a peer tutor and childcare worker.
I’m a firm believer that Latin is based on logical reasoning and classical interpretation. Rather than encouraging students to guess or rush through concepts, I ensure that all basic tools and concepts are fully understood by my students. Just like how I was taught, I start with noun declensions and endings (1-5) before moving on to verb endings while gradually adding vocabulary along the way. Historically I have used a textbook called Lingua Latina to teach through, but over time I have developed a curriculum of my own. Latin is a beautiful language, and learning it can strengthen a student’s vocabulary, grammar, and ability to learn other languages.
